I have been working at GNY Insurance Companies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

GNY has carved out a nice little niche for themselves in the market and they are very good at what they do. There are some good people that work here, who are courteous and knowledgeable. That is about it

    Cons

There is a huge disconnect between senior management and lower level employees. Management has no clue what it takes to get stuff done here and the frustrations that employees face on a daily basis. Underwriters have no authority to make decisions and everything must be referred. There is no trust afforded to people. There are also certain managers here who are extremely condescending to lower level/new employees, who are made to feel like children. I think one of the senior underwriting managers has a graduate degree in micromanaging. Work from home privileges are not extended to all employees. The office is straight out of 1987. Some of the filing cabinets here (and the paperwork in them) are older than some of the employees. Seriously outdated and depressing office environment.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to your employees. If you spent half as much time listening to your employees as you do coddling your brokers, this would be a much better place to work. As stated in other reviews, the office is in serious need of updating. Both the decorations and furniture are 1980's vintage. A modernization would go a long way in making people happier.

    Apr 23, 2018 – VP Human Resources

As the author of this review states, GNY is “very good at what they do.” There is a reason for this. Relationships are important to GNY. We believe in developing careers from the ground up and that... More

I have been working at GNY Insurance Companies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I'm trying to think of some but other than some of the people being nice, there aren't any.

    Cons

The company micro - manages. The environment is not upbeat and the company is stuck in the 70's. They talk about people and their performance openly as if you can't hear the conversions, and the training program is non-stop existent.

    Advice to Management

Start paying attention to morale. Develop an actual training program that provides necessary materials before sending people out to fail at the task given. Trial by error is not a good way to keep employees. Updating equipment and furniture to make the work environment a bit more comfortable would also be helpful.

I have been working at GNY Insurance Companies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

None since management wont communicate w/ employees.

    Cons

Everything is a secret as if this is a top secret company.

    Advice to Management

There has been rumors that the East Brunswick office is moving to Edison and the rumors are in the NY office too also some VP are sharing this w/ their family and the employees who are effected by this big move are not told about this up coming move and this will really affect a lot of employees and their future we should be told and have an opinion on how to proceed since travelling to a very busy area like Edison will be difficult.

    Pros

Friendly environment which fosters growth & improvement. The company will help you with the costs of materials & exams where other companies will make you pay for yourself. Management gives you plenty of training & guidance and you can ask whenever you have questions.

    Cons

Limited opportunities for growth. There is a clear ceiling.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work
