I worked at GS5, LLC full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, great benefits. Above average communication from the top.

    Cons

None that I can think of.

    Advice to Management

Your recruiter approached me for my first position after military retirement. He was excellent, and that is exactly how a company nabs transitioning military personnel: by aggressively pursuing them!

    Pros

    Competitive salary.
    Above-average benefits; especially 401k
Rewards stellar performance with cash bonuses.
Uses Google Apps for it's business infrastructure, so no old IE browser requirement for some legacy business application. Everything works great in modern browsers.
Strongly encourages physical fitness, if you're into that sort of thing.

    Cons

Semi-regular meetings with upper management can be awkward, but not terribly unpleasant.
Tedious annual appraisal system (but no worse than the systems other contracting companies use).
Smaller company, so there's not much opportunity to stay with the company if you loose coverage.
Strongly encourages physical fitness, if you're not into that sort of thing.

    Pros

Small, close-knit, loyal team with a great reputation.

    Cons

The only downside is the 15-days/yr paid time off for vacation, sick days, snow days, etc.

    Advice to Management

I know small business margins are tight, but when the opportunity comes, boost the PTO. Thanks!

    Pros

    Great Benefits for the employees

    Cons

Management could care less about employees or their work ethic. They just care about bottom dollar and perceptions. In the end, it's going to cost them the contract.

    Advice to Management

Get to know your employees and really see who they are and what they have to offer, especially at other locations.

    Pros

Really good people. Good management. Good benefits.

    Cons

None. Like all defense contractors from the biggest to the smallest, once a contract ends, they may not have another on which to place you.

    Pros

Good perks for athletes (gym membership) and sports fans (tickets to games).
Management stays out of your hair when they're not needed.
Cash bonuses are handed out more frequently than I've seen with other contracting firms.
Management will bend over backwards for an employee if they value him/her.
Bonus for referring new business (1% of new contract).

    Cons

More paperwork required for annual reviews than I've seen with other contracting firms (but not considerably more).
Cash bonuses, while issued more frequently, are smaller than I've seen with other contracting firms.
No opportunity to invest in the company.

    Advice to Management

    Continue to grow the business.
Consider some form of Employee Stock Purchase and/or Profit Sharing program, to give employees a bigger stake in the company's success.

    Pros

Small company atmosphere -- the president and directors know everyone by name. Management practices open-door policy. Nice perks like sports tickets and monthly lunches out. Good salary, friendly coworkers and decent benefits. Involved in several charities. The company is looking to grow quickly.

    Cons

Small company atmosphere -- the company is looking for aggressive growth, and senior management seems very focused on "the next big thing" rather than the present. Ill-defined career progression. Questionable employee hiring and promotion -- the company may be growing too quickly to fill new positions with the most qualified personnel. Young owners still learning the subtleties of running a company.

    Advice to Management

Be more selective in hiring. Being able to staff contracts immediately may be good in the short term, but the company reputation and growth will suffer in the future if the best people aren't brought on board from the start.

    Pros

Great opportunities in a growing company. Excellent management that always support the employee and provide training / advancement opportunities. Highly recommended.

    Cons

Defense contracting can be unpredictable at times and multiple customers to support can create challenging environment. Long term job security is therefore hard to come by.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. Growth strategies are sound, treatment of employees is very fair, and the company is well considered among customer base.

    Pros

Great Benefits!!! Decent pay for the area. Health insurance is excellent and very reasonable. Best contractor to work for.

    Cons

No one from corporate is local. They depend on a project manager from another company to take care of things. He does not like change so its hard to get to move up or move around in positions.
