      Pros

GSDM has cultivated a values-based culture that creates a fun, laid-back, family-like atmosphere. These people will become your best friends -- if you like genuinely nice, hipster-types. Plus, there's no better city to live and work in than Austin, Texas.

      Cons

Don't come for the management vision or for an innovative new business model...as the industry undergoes massive changes, their business model and approach to advertising hasn't evolved in any significant way. Still a great agency but 'doing more with less' seems to be the go-to answer for how to make money in the new era. Loads of talented people who would benefit greatly if leadership would develop a strategic plan and vision for a way forward.

      Pros

The wider team was great– very friendly and creative.

      Cons

My team was under immense stress because we were on the verge of losing the client which i think is par for the course at ad agencies. Clients are a bit of a mixed bag but generally ok for an Austin agency.

      Pros

Cool place to work, downtown Austin.

      Cons

Social media department is ran by account managers who don't really belong in the space. Politics run rampant and your work is based off of personal opinions and pecking order over quality. Middle management in social media department is cut throat and will stop at nothing to advance their own careers. Lying, false credit, and ruining careers under false allegations are the tactics. Don't forget, it's not what you do, it's what they can get you in trouble for.

Some great people in smaller roles Good parties Great Austin networking

      Cons

Malina and Russell have stolen the agency vision from 20 years ago: We do TV ads. There is zero integrated marketing (originally a Stewart vision for moving into the the new millennium). Unless you agree with the back to the future vision don't let the door hit you on the way out.

      More traditional than expected

      Pros

      - 'Freedom and responsibility' is preached pretty hard, it's easy to get out of the office and work from home. - Austin is an amazing city, and the office is in the center of it.

      Cons

Upper management is out of touch and doesn't know what it's like to actually put in the work anymore. If you work hard, you are not rewarded with promotions often/ever. You are told that overworking is your own fault.

      Cons

the work is not the best in the industry, opt for safe, middle of the road over more compelling ideas and work

      Pros

I was a big fan when I started working at GSD&M. The energy was great and the people were worth looking up to. So over 5+ years working at the agency, I saw what was a great company flounder. When the original partners stepped down a lot of the energy dried up. I'll stick the "pros" of GSD&M, and that would be the Austin office space – particularly the backyard. I loved coming to work seeing such beautiful grounds.

      Cons

I know when people look at these ratings they think of some disgruntled former employee making a desperate and angry review. To be completely honest I have nothing against GSD&M. It's been a few years since I've been there and I'm in a great job. The only feelings I have is pity for the people who are slaving away with some fantasy that they'll rise to the top. Not going to happen guys. Senior management is entrenched and have no ambition to move on. They (for the most part) have done their time and have been protected from the roller coaster ride of agency hires and layoffs. It's a good place to put in your time (oh and you will do that) as a young employee. As for the the leadership of GSD&M. Duff is a #2 guy. He's NOT a Roy Spence and will never be. (By the way he's very insecure about that) Now I'm not saying Roy is perfect. But he has the ability to command a room and lead a company. Duff is not that guy and his hire of "senior" management hasn't been one of confidence. So, like I said the agency is floundering while the older folks fight for their paycheck. When these guys retire there might be a spark of passion. One thing is for sure, they will use you and use you without the thought of a decent bonus. Yep bonus' are rare at this company. Good luck. Really, good luck.

      Pros

Really great experience. Got to work on a variety of clients while maintaining a decent work/life balance (of course depends what account you work on, and this is compared to other agencies). If you're living in Austin and work in advertising, this is the place to do it.

      Cons

Promotions are rare. Doesn't seem like moving people up within the company is a priority. Like all agencies they hire from the outside instead of fostering talent. The pay isn't very competitive.
