Great job security, if you are the complacent type.

Always busy and work with many 'veterans' in advertising. Able to soak up their knowledge like a sponge. Tons of time off. Like my title said, I guess I am complacent, because I rejoice in the job security that I have.
Cons
Certain perks were taken away and then we were blatantly lied to our own faces (Silly upper management tried to blame the clients, but they know we know what really happened). That right there was very disrespectful. Don't expect to be promoted or get many raises or bonuses. Each week it seems like they are introducing a new EVP or SVP, though. IT has been outsourced to India and we lost many great people.

Great client and work atmosphere, but process needs an overhaul.

Benefits are great: Summer Fridays, Corporate fring benefits are nice. Some extremely creative people work here who do what it takes to get great work out the door.
Cons
The process of reviews is going through a transition, but still needs work. Raises are almost unheard of. HR told me if you come with an offer from another company, they can't negotiate

-amazing client. More like a partnership -bagel Thursday's -beer Friday's -great work life balance -the young junior people are great to work with - they are passionate and fun and care about doing good work but....
Cons
New senior management has shifted everything that "GTB" once was. There is no longer that excited and motivated culture. Everyone is updating their resume and whispering about what interviews they are going to and supervisors / senior management aren't doing anything To make people stay. Huge restructure in March and still have not been communicated the new plan. Supervisors give vague and short answers to genuine concerns. You would think with some teams losing more than half of their bodies due to people finding new jobs the management team would do what they could to retain the good and passionate talent that is left, but nothing is being done. Exit interviews are being repeated, no one feels comfortable going to anyone on the senior leadership team to voice concerns because the team acts like a giant high school always gossiping and thinking they are better than everyone else.

Pros
- Great people who genuinely care about the client and the work they are doing - Good place to gain industry knowledge - Casual environment - Week off between Christmas and the New Year
Cons
- Unlivable salary (especially in the field offices - salaries must be based on cost of living in Dearborn) - No raises or bonuses - No room for growth (they may give you a title change with additional responsibilities but no raise or, if you're lucky, about $2K) - Stressful work environment - Expected to absorb the positions of those who leave or are laid off (even if it means working extra hours) without additional compensation in salary or overtime - Lack of communication between departments, and often within departments - Loyal employees are seen as disposable - made to feel we should be grateful to even have a job - Those with excellent work ethic are often undervalued and rarely recognized for their hard work - Have seen a steady decline in morale over my 3+ years - Most of the people that were here when I started have left (mass exodus over the last year or so that I can only assume will continue)

Least likely to develop employees

Great group of people to work with; I still stay in touch years after leaving. Stable; with a multi-billion dollar annual contract with Ford Motor Company as its primary revenue source, the company is very stable. The relationship between the two companies is relatively incestuous where employees are embedded in each others companies. It would be very difficult for the client to leave the agency without huge disruption to its communication programs. Opportunity to work with cutting edge technology and industry actions. Teamdetroit has pioneered many groundbreaking brand building techniques including product placement as a major element of marketing. Good as a 'first job' employer.
Cons
Work/life balance is rarely a consideration. Relatively high turnover rate. Although, to be fair, I would not think it is above industry average. Also, institutional knowledge is rarely a consideration in the many situations I witnessed where employees gave notice; company only rarely attempted to keep key employees with valuable referential knowledge. It did, however, make enormous strides to keep management personnel even after proving themselves wiling to make questionable ethical and strategic decisions. In almost 15 years with the company I only received 4 annual reviews and none that provided any usable feedback on which to focus. Company seemed much more willing to hire new expertise rather than develop extant employees. This became a running joke to long-term employees who witnessed colleagues leave, receive training or experience elsewhere, then return at a higher pay rate on numerous occasions. Pay was admitted by management to be on the mid to low range and that they considered the difference to be made up for in workplace environment. Non-creative related employees were considered more like annoyances than integral to the success of the agency. Morale was often on a roller coaster as employee consideration deteriorated, then management realized the danger of mass defections; then did as little as possible to salvage situation before allowing it to deteriorate once more.
