I have been working at GZA GeoEnvironmental full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent name recognition, good benefits, opportunities to grow, senior staff very knowledgable

    Cons

Pay is below the average, work/life balance difficult for some, difficult to advance

    Advice to Management

If you truly value your staff, make it known. Younger staff often go unappreciated which leads to turnover.

I worked at GZA GeoEnvironmental full-time

    Pros

    Interesting Work, Big Name Clients

    Cons

Expects over 60 hours of work a week, top heavy benefits and fraternity-like culture. If you're not one of the "good ol' boys" you won't fit in. High turnover in low level engineers

    Advice to Management

Focus on the bottom of your ladder. Most people at the bottom aren't happy.

I worked at GZA GeoEnvironmental full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some of the most fun people I've worked with, great 401k match, laid back work atmosphere.

    Cons

Low pay and not a lot of room for advancement. People like it here and stay a while. This leads to senior position openings being few and far between. Those that do leave typically do for better pay, better opportunities, or both.

I have been working at GZA GeoEnvironmental full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Challenging projects, self-driven atmosphere, friendly people, investment in continuing education, promotes professional advancement through involvement. Promotes thoughtfully engineered solutions instead of commodity based routine work.

    Cons

Client focused company with diverse scopes and complex engineering can be time consuming for training and maintaining competitive edge. Balance between running a competitive engineering consulting practice for employee owned firm and maintaining staff expectations of working for mid-size firm.

    Advice to Management

Communication, listen to staff and managers, continue to promote from within when possible, look for top performers. Continue to sustain an employee owned, client focused, solutions driven culture for people who want to make the most of their career.

I worked at GZA GeoEnvironmental full-time

    Pros

I worked in 3 separate departments. Solid company overall. Big and interesting projects. Lots of internal resources for growth. Most of the people are very professional and friendly.

    Cons

One department had poor management and some toxic team atmospheres, resulting in me leaving the company.

    Advice to Management

Toxic teams were likely due to resentful junior staff. Most of the senior management are very receptive to junior staff concerns and would address them, but not entirely.

Encourage junior staff to speak up and voice their concerns. When they do, ensure it is not only acknowledged, but acted upon.
