I have been working at Gabberts Furniture & Design Studio full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great coworkers, atmosphere is congenial, management is responsive. Very good training regarding manufacturer assortment. Fantastic brands and variety to offer customers. Great support teams including the best delivery and service techs.

    Cons

Biggest complaint is the pay which is low for the experience and knowledge involved. Difficult for new people to earn more than the minimum for a year or more. Working nights, weekends and most holidays is expected. Technology is out of date; floor staff carry phones that are ancient and don't work well if at all.

    Advice to Management

Address the compensation issue, update technology, hire webmaster to make web more informative. Redirect marketing to appeal to younger audience- 30-50 age group. Have buyers be more open to suggestions from the selling team.

I worked at Gabberts Furniture & Design Studio (More than a year)

    Pros

    Beautiful, quality furniture. Wonderful Reps.

    Cons

Horrible and very toxic place to work. Management plays favorites and it causes problems on the selling floor. Micro manage and treat educated adults like small children. There is no money to be made. Most full time employess have second jobs and need to have a roommate.

    Advice to Management

No words can express what a horrible experience it is to work at Gabberts under HOM management.

    Pros

A few great co-workers, opportunity to learn about high end furniture

    Cons

Lousy training, dysfunctional atmosphere involving favoritism and requirement to play up to management to obtain decent treatment, disrespect of employees in the form or scolding and "talking down,"retaliation against anyone who dares to report unfair treatment. One might be able to put up with this if there was really an opportunity to make a good living, but for the average designer/salesperson, expect to struggle to make ends meet. Most salespeople on the floor have to take a second job to pay their bills if they are not supported by a partner or spouse. It is such a shock to experience the reality at Gabberts when the image is that of a quality place to buy furniture. The furniture may be nice but if you notice disenchanted people helping you who don't seem to care, there is a good reason for this. They are being treated badly. Such a shame!

    Advice to Management

Stop being so cheap! Put your dedicated, talented employees on a base salary that is actually a living wage, and then re-train your managers on how to treat their employees with respect. Prohibit favoritism, and the many other forms of inappropriate behavior exhibited by your managers.. Let the employees rate their managers, and you will be shocked! Use this as a tool to improve. Your business is suffering and the morale of your employees is painfully low.

I have been working at Gabberts Furniture & Design Studio full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A beautiful store with upbeat employees. A world renowned Design Studio that all employees can be proud of. A mattress department that carries the finest and most exquisite selections money can buy.

    Cons

If your going to work retail there's really not any cons at Gabberts. Customers are usually very satisfied and there's low turnover on the floor.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the focus on being the best furniture store in the world.

    Pros

The creativity, the people you work with and for, the reputation the company holds.

    Cons

Management was constantly chasing their tails....bringing in new people to "save" the company.
Each new addition drove the company further and further into the ground.

    Advice to Management

Respect your companies history.....do what you've always done well. Avoid people that are all talk and have zero understanding of the furniture industry.
