    Negative Outlook

    I worked at Gabe’s full-time

    Pros

I was an assistant manager and thought that the compensation for that position was good. Also, the employee discount plan was also adequate.

    Cons

The company was highly disorganized from upper management. Many times the left hand never knew what the right hand was doing. They took advantage of store level management. Managers were scheduled for 50 hr weeks, but pay checks stated pay was for 80hrs every 2 weeks. Also if a manager called in sick, that sick day had to be made up on a scheduled day off. In the store I worked for, they are on their 4th GM in a one year period which I think speaks volumes.

"Gabes can be a great part time job, but not the greatest for permanent employment."

I have been working at Gabe’s

    Pros

The flexability in schedueling is always a plus. It can be a good part time job to have if you are going to school, looking for a second job, or have to work around child care needs. The more relaxed atmosphere is nice. I also enjoy the ability to use creativity when making displays and arranging the floor. I enjoy their structue of getting things done. I like how each employee has an area of the floor that needs cleaned up or stocked, and each employee has a register, so no one person is stuck on cash register all day every day. This also makes it so each employee knows a fair amount about the area they are working in, and when customers ask questions they can usually be answered. I also enjoy looking at the clothing all day and the employee discount.

    Cons

The main downside that drives the most people away from working there is when it gets busy, it can get ugly fast, which can make people get nihilistic and overwhelmed about the job they are doing. Many get frustrated from having to run back and forth from their area of the floor and the cash register. Another downside is the pay is pretty low, raises have been pretty slim lately and I have seen very few people get promoted to management from within. Often times the managers and the department heads that are hired from the outside can be very unrealistic on what can get done, which can get frustrating to employees.
