Pros
Discounts and pretty good health coverage. I need to fill in 20 words with pros but none are available. So ill use this as filler.
Cons
Very little payroll. Expectations exceed reality. Unorganized logistics and merchandising. Communication is slow moving. Employees are underpaid dramatically underneath management especially (minimum wage) dept. Mgr (9.00). In two years time there is only one person still there at assistant manager or above in the entire district. Very high turnover even at retail standards. Only 9 people remain from a new store that opened in 2015 that started with 150. People are cattle to this company. No incentives to stay or progess in the company.

Pros
Good People, good discount, you do learn a little about the process of discount stores.
Cons
Management, how the stores are ran, how things are processed, the entire way the store functions. There is no room for advancement. High turnover. This is the type of job that no one stays at long because it's horrible. When I first started working there I was told to make myself as valuable as I could to the company in order to get hours.

Pros
Great team to work with for the most part, 15% discount.
Cons
Short shifts, cut hours. Bad incentive to stay- 15 cent raise a year and below inflation level pay. The new owners want us to be people oriented when they themselves are not IMHO. They don't care about the employees, high turnover reflects that. Who wants to work where you never get ahead? The store is always trashed by customers throwing stuff everywhere and the few associates on the shifts just can't keep up.

Doesn't RecommendNeutral OutlookDisapproves of CEOI worked at Gabe’s full-time for less than a year
Pros
Great vehicle in this retail sector. Nice selection of products in a variety of departments. Has a market of customers that will always shop them due to the slow economy and over-manufactured and produced goods at their disposal. Compensation is a below their competition's rate, but can make a living.
Cons
One phone line available for use, one computer terminal has to be shared by everyone in the store for any functions, even management. Old registers systems consistently breakdown or power off at busy times....the list goes on and on about the lack of support to the stores to do just basic fuctions. Management is overworked due to budget cuts and lack of talent available, even extends to the assistant manager ranks which are often cast offs from other retailers. Store Managers are good but frustrated by the simple production and quality of the FT staff that is getting older, but won't leave, which doesn't allow for much opportunity for a PT to move up. PT staff is first to feel the budget cuts, which causes them to seek other employment and causes high turnover. Money being spent on hiring more buyers, who then need assistants, who also need their own set of support staff. Very top heavy in upper management for a company of this size with a regional presents only. District Managers have little idea of the store's activities because they do the same routine over and over due to the fact that it is what got them into the position, why change.

Pros
pay was good and few meetings
Cons
Corporate culture and environment is not pleasent. Owners are verymuch set on doing business their way, so it is very hard to prove your talents. Lots and lots of travel. Talk with vendors in the market, they will give you some good advice on the company. High turnover.

RecommendsNeutral OutlookNo opinion of CEOI have been working at Gabe’s part-time for more than 3 years
Pros
The comfortable almost family-like atmosphere your fellow co-workers, even including management, create helps to curb the frequent headaches that a typical, aggressive sales day at 'Gabes' entails. If you are ambitious, it will not go unnoticed. Management relishes over hardworking, reliable people who are aren't afraid to take initiative. There is a strong loyal customer base here, and consistently serving these regular customers for the most part is enjoyable and rewarding.
Cons
Selling name-brand merchandise at very discounted prices comes at a cost, no pun intended. The company is, unfortunately, a big target for all forms of shoplifting (ticket switching, stashing, fraudulent returns, etc.) ; employees and management are constantly on the defense. There is also the issue of limited hours allotted for scheduling. While the corporate office allots the amount of weekly hours for a specific location, nearly everyday, the schedules are short of associates to work on the floor. Most frequently affecting the night shift. A typical associate will be given a department to maintain and also be required to ring on a register, if needed. Customer lines often become long and floor associated are asked to ring for long periods of time. While saving money is the ultimate goal here, this absolutely affects the final appearance of the store and customers' overall happiness. Dealing with these issues is stressful and a frequent turnoff for employees, leading to a moderately high turnover rate.
