"IT Department - Stay Away"

Doesn't RecommendNegative OutlookDisapproves of CEOI worked at Gabe’s full-time for more than a year
Pros
None whatsoever, there's a culture of "well, be lucky that you have a job"
Cons
Every single position in the IT department is underpaid by 40% (and that's based on the WV average). Upper management is incompetent (the CIO can't tell the difference between new and used toner, has no idea what waterfall development even is), middle management has no power, the workload is too high and hard efforts go unrewarded and unnoticed. The department is far too small and far too underskilled to support a company the size of Gabe's. Not only that, they will expect you to work weeks of overtime (Without being compensated for it, they will take days off of the following weeks instead) or weekend/nights for the higher level positions. As a holiday bonus for performing well, we legitimately received a McDonald's Arch Card (valued at $10) - what a joke. There are some smart people in the department but they all feel like they fell into a sinkhole and got trapped there for 5+ years. Avoid this company at all costs if you are in IT. It is the worst possible employer you could find.

Doesn't RecommendPositive OutlookI have been working at Gabe’s full-time for more than 10 years
Pros
They dont require prior work or retail experience, Friendly co-workers and atmosphere, There's opportunity for advancement, the work is relatively easy
Cons
They lack correct training and management doesn't follow up on this. Non competitive wages, no merit raises. Your not recognized for exemplary work. They don't follow company protocol across the board, upper management plays favorites.

Doesn't RecommendI have been working at Gabe’s part-time
Pros
Awesome co-workers. Sometimes you get to help people find the perfect thing they are looking for. Other times you go home knowing you actually made a difference in someone's life (guy starting a new job, needed work pants and had almost no money - helped him search clearance racks and found what he needed for $5 less then the regular price pants he picked out - he said that extra money would cover the bus fare to work - he was so relieved and grateful).
Cons
Cheap company to work for. Min. wage and min raises. Upper management completely out of touch with reality (unfortunately this is common with most companies).

Doesn't RecommendNegative OutlookI worked at Gabe’s full-time
Pros
I was an assistant manager and thought that the compensation for that position was good. Also, the employee discount plan was also adequate.
Cons
The company was highly disorganized from upper management. Many times the left hand never knew what the right hand was doing. They took advantage of store level management. Managers were scheduled for 50 hr weeks, but pay checks stated pay was for 80hrs every 2 weeks. Also if a manager called in sick, that sick day had to be made up on a scheduled day off. In the store I worked for, they are on their 4th GM in a one year period which I think speaks volumes.

Doesn't RecommendNegative OutlookNo opinion of CEOI have been working at Gabe’s part-time for less than a year
Pros
You stay busy during your shift and some of the upper management is really nice.
Cons
Department managers are BEYOND rude to associates, there is seriously little to NO training for new employees, and there is ZERO consistency in every aspect of this store. By that I mean, the schedule is never posted the same day each week, you never know what your job is each time you come in, and you NEVER know whose in charge of what.

"A Hellish Nightmare"

Doesn't RecommendNegative OutlookI worked at Gabe’s full-time for more than 3 years
Pros
You get a paycheck every two weeks
Cons
Where do I begin? Do I start with upper management that makes decisions and send it down to the stores with no regards to whether or not it's feasible? Or with the district manager that has expectations that does not fit with the staff that they have in place? Or a store manager that can't even figure out how to get returns done? Or associates that have been there for years and are very lazy and don't want to change? These are just the beginning of what's wrong with this company. They work you like a dog and expect you to change your schedule on a dime. They play favoritism with the managers they are "friends" with. Nothing gets done because people are to busy trying to play the game of backstabbing that no one is paying attention to the fact that the store is falling apart. They reward those who don't do their jobs, and penalize the ones that are breaking their backs to try and make the place look as though it's a functioning store. They hired a CEO that has previously ran other companies out of business. Gabe's is next.
