Cons
Thought this would be a convenient way to make extra funds without the commitment that part time, non-contract roles generally require — WRONG. While you are able to make your own hours, that is solely dependent on whether or not work is available. They sporadically open/close the queues throughout the day, so you basically have to be babysitting your computer. You also have the opportunity to sign up for "shifts", but because of how aggressively they hire, those spots fill up quickly. The training (if you can even call it that) consisted of reviewing a digital packet that they put together; no opportunity to ask questions or get practice in before being thrown into production. Regardless of what part of the week you're "hired", you are still required to hit their weekly hour minimum. In addition to the weekly hour minimum, you're required to review no less than 275 files/hour which is roughly 4-5 files/minute. Not sure how they calculated this random number, but i find it hard to believe that anyone is actually hitting that number considering the fact that some of the files are pretty long. If you're new, there are A LOT of nuanced/one-off situations that don't necessarily fall into the categories described within the "training" packet. There's a forum to ask questions, but sometimes getting an answer (if you even get one) can take up to 10 min or more which slows you down & doesn't allow you to meet their ridiculous hourly minimum. Furthermore, the pay ($10/hr) is wayyyyyyyyy too low for the sensitive nature of what you're reviewing. Too many weird rules for it to be a "flexible independent contractor role." If you like to be fairly compensated for the work you do, I wouldn't recommend Gaggle.
Continue readingIt’s unfortunate to hear that your experience wasn’t more positive. Given the nature of what we do supporting students and schools around the clock, the work for these roles does fluctuate throughout the year, which can impact our staffing needs. I understand that this can be frustrating—it is an ever-evolving process, and we try our best to be prepared to help keep kids safe. If you would like to further discuss your feedback, please reach out to paget@gaggle.net.
