Gaia is a highly inspirational company to work for!

      Pros

Gaia has a highly inspirational vision and mission. It's a privilege to work with other conscious co-creators, who are really aligned with this mission.

      Cons

I would've enjoyed more empowerment to implement my ideas, years of knowledge and skill set.

      Pros

Seems to be growth opportunities for those who mold to the CEO viewpoint. Great health insurance.

      Cons

Working here was one of the strangest experiences of my life. Never have I experienced such incompetence or unprofessionalism like this before. A word to the wise, working at this establishment is challenging in the wrong way. It is a vicious corporation, no matter how many crystals and labyrinths there might be. Management actively resists innovation and expertise. There is no HR department to hear your concerns. While some of the videos stemming from this organization is harmless, a large amount is harmful, contributing directly to conspiracy theories that fueled the capitol riot on 1/6/21 and the qanon followers.

      Woke Joke

      Pros

The yoga! The beautiful campus, crystals, cafe. (Cafe food is bomb.) Fun topics to discuss. There are some people worth befriending, but others are so far their own rabbit holes -- spiritual bypassing everywhere. maybe that's Boulder. There is a nice labyrinth in the back and a pond to enjoy. Interesting content to watch.

      Cons

Butts-in-seats mentality, conspiracy theorists, men get paid more than women. the CEO does not seem to care about his employees. No upward mobility, unless maybe if you prove your allegiance.

      Fantastic Engineering Organization

      Pros

Engineering organization is top notch. Lead by an intelligent, kind, humble, supportive, results-driven VP, who values and requires accountability and emotional intelligence, it is a collection of extremely sharp people, who work well together. Agile processes are in place, but not overdone, ensuring data-driven success with solid perimeter monitoring, a scalable, maintainable yet simplified technology stack, kept in check and lead by excellent principal engineers. CI/CD pipeline keeps frequent production deploys available. Feature driven teams deliver high quality code. Team is mostly senior, and is a good place for mid-tier engineers to come on board and learn solid engineering practices in a well-organized code base with excellent team mates. QA resources are amazing, and extremely detail oriented, and though few, are great development resources before, during and after development. Nice campus with a few cool extras: subsidized cafeteria with great food and staff, onsite gym, and yoga/fitness classes. Health benefits include some massage and acupuncture. So many really nice people!

      Cons

Inconsistent/missing support for internal culture of really great individuals, and lack of expressed appreciation from above/outside engineering - can be a bit of a moral/ethical struggle. No support from outside engineering for remote work (if that's important), even though infrastructure and agile processes in place consistently proved productivity and delivery excelled during covid lock down.

Don't let the mission fool you, it's a cult with no real ethical leadership

      Pros

Great Cafe - Employee gym on-sight - Some great people (as there are everywhere) - Great Health Benefits and some cool content (also found on YouTube)

      Cons

The executive team has no idea how to build cross-departmental teams or empower them to execute. The executive team spends the majority of their time infighting rather than leading. The executive team has no strategy - they confuse dictating a number - go add 600K new users - as a quarterly plan. The entire data science team quit due to 2 executives mis-managing the roles, the skills, data ethics and the integrity of 6+ people who lasted 2 weeks to 1 year. Verify on LinkedIn.... There is no marketing - the entire team (30+ people) was eviscerated because competing executives could not figure out how to work with them. And when the initiatives failed they were blamed and categorized as lacking competency. Employee gossip is high and moral, in part due to no visibility onto the business, NO STRATEGY from Product. It doesn't really matter what department you are in - production and engineering fair better because they have better leadership but it all bleeds together and if you are in engineering and assume work from home is an option, you are mistaken. Leadership walks the building to check for "butts in seats".

      Pros

Great engineering organization, good leaders, tech, etc. Especially great place for junior to mid level engineers to get exposure to a variety of services, and quality mentorship. Very enjoyable work environment, nice people, great cafe, and good location.

      Cons

No remote work. The work environment that has been cultivated within the engineering department does not seem to be consistent with the rest of the company.

      Pros

Amazing coworkers. Lots of people genuinely trying to make a difference.

      Cons

Almost zero hope of advancing your career (you'll be stuck in the same role you're hired in--I saw this issue for many people). Misalignment between "empowering the evolution of consciousness" and the goals that you're measured on. We were commonly "empowered" to try and make goals that fulfill the vision, but when it really came down to it, the business sets soulless financial goals that were more self-serving (vs customer/consciousness serving) and misalign with the soul of this vision.

      Cons

It's truly unbelievable how askew this company is. It's hard to describe. Imagine a CEO who has literally set-up company culture based on fear, guarding territory, ownership, and absence all at the same time. This company is entirely beholden to Wall Street. How's that for an alternative media company? There may be 5 employees total at this company who are truly, genuinely happy here. The amount of disatisfaction and deep energetic misalignment is astounding. It took me a long time to see this, and it has gotten worse and worse. We did not hear from Jirka one time during the entire COVID crises. CEO's neurosis around remote work and pandemic-related conspiracy considered higher priority than employee health. Total lack of collaboration and creative ideation. There's a lot more I could write.

      Pros

Gaia took care of their employees. The perks and benefits were numerable, from acres of open space, walking paths, and parks nearby to their gym, organic cafe, and yoga classes for employees – Gaia walked their talk. Hours were flexible and reasonable, and in the Engineering department, personal well being was taken seriously. There was nothing except support from the leadership to "walk away from your desk", take breaks, go outside etc.. The people all took care of themselves so I felt supported in doing the same. The development practices made work enjoyable and effective. Yearly Agile training ensured the organization was on the same page, from leadership and Product all the way down through Engineering. We didn't over-work -- we worked smartly. Influential product. The company was passionate about its mission and vision, and took it seriously. Consequently I had the chance to work on a platform that aimed to bring real benefit to its customers. The customer base also saw significant growth during my tenure 100,000+ to 600,000+ in 2 years ... and this made for an exciting time.

      Cons

Ultimately my priorities shifted and I desired to work part time, and remotely. Gaia didn't have a policy for this type of professional lifestyle so I made the difficult decision to pursue other opportunities.
