I worked at Gainesville Health and Fitness part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great coworkers, educational environment, team effort, great culture

    Cons

Upper bodies play favorites like no other. If you are not in that gym all day everyday, expect to not be a favorite. Extreme micromanaging constantly going on. They put sales over everything else.

    Pros

A strong emphasis on education, and willingness to teach you all you need to know. Great atmosphere and team building environment. Always willing to promote from within.

    Cons

Their goal is to build up leaders which unfortunately comes with a lot of turnover as these leaders move on to bigger things. Often don't get enough hours.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what your doing, you're a great model for other companies to look to. CEO cares more than any other boss I've ever had.

I worked at Gainesville Health and Fitness (Less than a year)

    Pros

There aren't any, really. It sounded great during the five part interview process but once I found out what lies I was told, and what information was withheld from me, Imrealized there wasn't anything good about the job.

    Cons

Staff makes minimum wage. A lot of studying at home is required and not compensated for.
As a salesperson, I was not given the tools to succeed. Half the the sales force (4 people) have been there over 20 years, the other half has been there less than 3. That should tell you something. The senior sales people have all the corporate accounts locked up.

    Advice to Management

Pay your staff more than minimum wage. Train new sales people in prospecting beyond putting oit contest boxes.

    Pros

If you are a masochist this place is for you. You can get paid minimum wage to be treated horribly. There are plenty of employees who are probably good people, but they will be treated as badly as you.

    Cons

If you are forced to call in sick twice on short notice...you are fired. Their system isn't based on merit or how valuable your employee actually is. It is based on a point system. This makes no sense as some people CAN get sick if they work in a job that is high contact with strangers.

Let's not forget that you are paid poorly as well. So not only are you treated poorly, but you are compensated poorly as well. And they expect you to work off the clock studying and "networking" which really means boosting the turnout at their functions I guess.

You will be remind every second of how replaceable and expendable you will be. If you do not believe me, just talk to others who have worked here. They will confirm this. So really you should be asking yourself why you would work for this company if it is going to do this to you. Why not work somewhere for the same wage that will actually value you as an employee?

    Advice to Management

It costs more money to hire new employees and train them than it does to keep old ones. Why not fix your ridiculous turn over rate?

I worked at Gainesville Health and Fitness full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -Great, family type atmosphere!
    -Awesome members and member transformations!
-Easy place to make friends and networking connections.
    -Invested in their employees.
-Plenty of opportunity to learn, grow and advance. (Hint: the opportunities are there, it is up to you to make it happen!)
-Great place to build your resume in the industry.
-High level of expectations regarding customer service and job performance.

    Cons

-IF you are in it for the $$$$, this is not the place for you.
    - Higher turnover since most are college students so not always fully staffed.
    - A little more difficult to get your work noticed if you do not work at the main center. (But, like I said in the pros, the opportunity is still there, you just have to make it happen.)

    Advice to Management

Keep up the awesome work!!! Try not to let little things ripple down into bigger things. You guys got this!!

    Pros

Coworker were good, the gym itself is very good.

    Cons

Training is largely unpaid. I was hired as a Fitness Counselor (membership sales) and I had to train in all the departments. That wasn't the problem, the problem was that I was required to pass a test before each training session, which meant I had to spend hours and hours studying...for free.
During trainig I was not allowed to work more than 40 hoirs a week, once I went salary, my schedule was 45 hours each week...and I was told that I needed to join clubs and network on my days off.
GHFC is a joke., there is a reason their sales people have been there more than 25 years or less than 4.

    Advice to Management

Stop spending millions on renovations and start paying employees.
Train new salesmaen and honor commitments made during the hiring process.

I worked at Gainesville Health and Fitness part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get to know a lot of members and can make solid connections. It also helps you grow as a person as you enhance your people skills and customer service.

    Cons

The pay is minimum wage and you're assigned many tasks. The opportunity for growth is minimal. Its also has many young adults or teens employed so of course there's a circle. Many don't know how to properly manage or supervise in their roles.
