    Pros

Very flexible with interns on work/school balance. Can take off to catch up on school or change schedule around at interns leisure to help intern succeed.

    Cons

Could include interns in slightly more day to day activities but overall a great internship.

I have been working at Gainesville Regional Utilities full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great, local muni. The people get together to work out solutions to problems.

    Cons

Out-of-town Execs bringing a toxic culture to GRU.

    Advice to Management

    Listen and trust your staff.

I have been working at Gainesville Regional Utilities full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay. Some coworkers are cool.

    Cons

Management is awful. Promise you things that never happen. Playing favorites is their thing. We all just went through sexual harassment training but you wouldn't know it by sitting in the break room. It's a lawsuit waiting to happen. Do one little thing wrong and management will bring the hammer down and try to fire you. Happened to 2 of my coworkers. I'd recommend looking somewhere else to work.

    Advice to Management

Get off your high horse. Listen to your employees and stop trying to force policy down their throat. Actually talking to your employees to find out what they think about things would be nice, but they probably won't listen anyway.

I have been working at Gainesville Regional Utilities full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

GRU is a good place to work for. The other employees are a joy to work with and the company in general is a good place to work. They treat the employees fair.

    Cons

Difficult to move up the chain. Once you reach the top of your job title it can be difficult to move any further up.

    Advice to Management

Keep employees in mind, be creative about advancement opportunities by creating new positions or renaming current ones so their is growth potential.

    Pros

Conservative place to work, pleasant people, very low turnover, all things considered probably the nicest place overall to work in Gainesville.

    Cons

Low turnover makes it hard to get in the door, also you'll be the new guy until you've been there 20 years or so.....

    Advice to Management

    No advice

I worked at Gainesville Regional Utilities full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

New facilities, and a good group of people to work with.

    Cons

Senior staff has a couple of 'short-timers' looking to retire soon. As a result they have no backbone and do not support the IT staff as much as they should. The city made some questionable calls with a Biomass Generator that turned out to be very expensive to the citizens. Gainesville's electric charges are the most expensive in the state, and as a result IT budgets are being slashed to lower the charges to the citizens. Jobs are being cut by two very quirky senior staffers.

    Advice to Management

    They won't listen.
