I worked at Galena Park ISD full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very proactive with addressing students with special needs. Often address potential behavior and social problems before they happen, resulting in fewer fights between students.

    Cons

Almost TOO proactive. Too many meetings. Teachers are left feeling like their time is not valued well enough and their own children and families are neglected.

Mixes religion in too much with a government institution.

    Advice to Management

Pay your people for time not in contract. For example, mandatory tutorials,
Make any prayer at teacher related functions non-denominational so it can include those who are not of Christian faith.

I have been working at Galena Park ISD full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Galena Park is a family-friendly district that welcomes creativity, gives new teachers a chance to begin their career with support and training, and respects it seasoned teachers. When districts throughout the Houston area laid teachers and other staff off, Galena Park adjusted so that it's employees had job security.

    Cons

There are too many data meetings and focus on standardized test. Teachers are required to work excessively without compensation. There is a lot of favoritism and respect to race when it comes to advancement.

    Advice to Management

When schools are doing well academically, ease up on them and focus on those who need help the most.
