I worked at Gallagher full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great Leadership in Gallagher Bassett Services

    Cons

Insurance market and publicly traded which makes $$$ tight at times.

    Pros

Good relationships between peers. Overall friendly, pleasant and knowledgeable staff who like to help each other. Ability to work remotely assists in job flexibility.

    Cons

Underpaid compared to market even when promoted, minimal vacation time offered (5 years of employment before being given three weeks), minimal commission and bonuses, no raises or wage increases with inflation, continue to cut benefits including business phone allotment, management does not invest in the service teams who are expected to do more with less. Poor motivation and poor job satisfaction is rampant through all divisions.

    Advice to Management

Review the cons and work on it. Request anonymous employee surveys and exit surveys and actually read them and act on it.

Little changes will add up. People like the company and want to stick around, but if you continue to take advantage of your work force, your business clients will notice and the good people will continue to leave.

I worked at Gallagher full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Worked at Corporate Office, busy, benefits and salary.

    Cons

As in any office, people have their own agenda - keep to yourself and take everything with a grain of salt.

    Advice to Management

Bullying should not be tolerated - no matter how long an individual has been with the company. Many times a female manager took to speaking to my coworkers about how much she disliked me..... truly unprofessional. Speaking to other managers about another employee - I may understand, but my co-workers including a contractor from Robert Half.... just wrong. I only hope that karma comes around to this individual .

I have been working at Gallagher full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The culture at AJG is great - most people here have been around for 20+ years and spend their entire professional lives here. My role has fairly flexible work hours, and in general, work-from-home seems to be highly accommodated.

    Cons

For someone living in Chicago, the commute tends to be a hassle as Chicago traffic is notoriously bad.

    Advice to Management

Since Gallagher's work force tends to be more experienced and starting to get closer to retirement, attracting younger talent may be easier if there were options to work in the city.

I worked at Gallagher full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits offered were good, considering todays job world. Not much overtime necessary.
The new exit ramp from the highway makes it easier to get to work.

    Cons

If your not in the "Crowd" your not going to go anywhere. No casual Friday, no Summer hours, assigned lunch times and management is completely inflexible in regard to allowing you to change your start time or end time to attend an appointment or child's function.

    Advice to Management

Step into the current century as it will not bend the "Gallagher Way".

I worked at Gallagher full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    The coworkes are vary nice

    Cons

They have layed off several older and longtime employees over the past few years.

I have been working at Gallagher full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A sharp group of professionals who will welcome you into the Gallagher family. A results oriented atmosphere that is good for people who are not afraid to carve out their own career path by creating relationships and working hard. A true value for family and that is echoed in their flexible time policies.

    Cons

The interview process was far too long, but I did get a chance to speak with almost everyone that I would interface with on a daily basis. However, my employer certainly raised an eyebrow when I asked for multiple days off, so this is certainly an area for improvement in terms of attracting new employees. I almost gave up on them, but I am grateful I did not. The organization seems resistant to change but with any sales organization you must keep the "WIIFM?" in mind and sell your ideas appropriately.

    Advice to Management

Tighten up the interview process and don't be afraid of change.

I worked at Gallagher as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

People are fun, tons of intern exposure to high-level management, well-structured internship, tons of fun networking events.

    Cons

Lots of pressure to make sales targets, competitive insurance landscape, boring work, must constantly impress and cater to clients, outdated corporate culture.

    Advice to Management

Make Gallagher an exciting place to come to work and allow employees to implement their own ideas. Allow interns more autonomy to make the final projects truly their own.
