I worked at GameStop (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Fun environment to work in.

    Cons

Literally everything. Corporate does not care about the "little" people as they are more concerned with their monetary earnings. Aside from holiday time, you will receive little to no hours unless you are a key holder. You will be made to push product HARD with no reward or incentive.

    Advice to Management

    Care?

I have been working at GameStop part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

At the level I am at I occasionally get the opportunity to talk about games. The few people who come in and you get to have genuine conversation about games

    Cons

Management is bitter and take it out on the employees. All levels above Store Lead position expect the impossible. Its mandatory to continually spit offer after offer to customers often with little to no results. You can feel the desperation in the company. The pay is absolutely pathetic and while they do offer insurance its high rates with low benefits to it.

I have been working at GameStop part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I understand some will be enticed by working with games and electronics, and a little bit of a store discount. There is a nice variation of tasks to do to break up day to day monotony,.....:

    Cons

but it is simply not worth the -absurd- pressure they put on every level of employee, and the utterly unfair, below-average wages for the amount of work you are required to do, and pressure they put on you to somehow -always- do better than you ever previously have, even if you're well above the company average.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Pay them better. STOP having such an absurd focus on the COL. If a store is being profitable, and their COL is crummy; get off their backs. Don't make us work thanksgiving and say it's whats best for us. It's not. And you know it. EVERYONE in my district; i even called, every single store, personally. Not one person in ANY store wanted to do this.

    I worked at GameStop part-time

    Pros

    Knowing when to preorder items

    Cons

Too focused on performance, believes in one size fits all sales philosophy

    Advice to Management

Please stop trying to force people to sell a certain way. Knowing I was being graded on pointless things was unnecessarily stressful

    Cons

circle of life we be the death of the company reserves pro cards and preowned goals are like you must get them on every customer. If not good bye and we will move on.
Horrible pay and discount only pay the taxes of the product.

I worked at GameStop part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You meet some of the best customers and get to work around video games ! You wear a lot of hats! So no matter where you go after, you kind of learn everything here !

    Cons

Favoritism ! Thats all there is. ridiculous goals. The only way to move up is if you are friends with management. You are told to act like a piranha when a customer comes in the store. "if a family comes in and are planning on going to dinner after; if we do our job right, they won't have the money to go to dinner." actual quote from the regional manager.

    Advice to Management

Remember that you are working with people! Quite passing up people that only work hard because YOU promised promotions and advances. Just to bring in one of your buddies! Treat your customers and your employees like people and not numbers!

I worked at GameStop part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Enjoy helping people and answering questions

    - Being able to rent used games for a couple of days

    Cons

    - Hours based on annual sale goals does not work well, especially mall locations

    - Poor pay

    - Constant micromanagement

    - Very little incentive to be promoted

    - Witnessed part-timer being scheduled over 35 hours

    - A lot of playing "tech support" over the phone

    - Shady sales antics from other stores in district led to much scrutiny for other stores "under performing" in-comparison.

    Advice to Management

    Lower that cons list.
