    Low Hours

I worked at GameStop part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -rent games, get a discount
-get along with most of your coworkers
-pretty difficult to get fired from, so a decent place to work for awhile to put on your resume
-might have good hours during seasons

    Cons

-huge pressure to perform, then some employees end up carrying the weight
-they more or less make you subscribe to their magazine, which is just annoying because you have to pay for it
-some managers are extremely lax, others are too harsh, was there any decent training?
-as others have said, minimum wage, few hours, they overhire and then have people work a single day a week. that may be fine if that's what you're looking for, but plan to get a second job. for this reason season is give and take - someone I knew was hired for seasonal, worked one day, and was never scheduled again
-don't expect a raise or much of a raise even if you do well. feel free to gun for keyholder but it'll take awhile and you may have to switch stores
-agreed with comments by other female employees that management doesn't treat sexual harassment seriously

I have been working at GameStop part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Can be a fun sales environment with customers with similar interests. Discount is nice.

    Cons

Corporate is overbearing and horrible at listening to anyone at store level. Inflexible.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the people who actually see how the store operations work.

    Pros

    Renting Games for Free
Helping and Developing Rapport with Customers
    Small Discount

    Cons

    Ridiculous sales expectations
Incessant badgering of customers for preorders, season passes, or pro cards

    Advice to Management

Don't scare off your customers by forcing addons down their throats.

    Pros

Barely get discounts on games, and if you are lucky to have a cool manager get to borrow games

    Cons

    to many to talk about

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees better and pay them more.

    I worked at GameStop part-time

    Pros

Had a great manager and team, mostly a fun environment.

    Cons

Company turned exclusively to a sales based model and got rid of the customer focused model.

    Advice to Management

Had a not so great manager fill in for a week after my awesome manager left. That manager said to us "I don't care if you have to pull teeth, get those numbers" and that was my last day on the job. Numbers usually come with happy customers, don't lose focus that customers are people and not walking wallets.

    Pros

Fun environment to work in, when you work in a small team, know everyone that works there. It very much felt comfortable times, espescially on slow days when you'd have 5 or so people walk into the store your entire shift.

    Cons

The promotions we were forced to sell and promote, along with the forced quotas made everything much more difficult and stressful.

I have been working at GameStop part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    I get a paycheck.
    Decent employee discount
Most of my coworkers, including the Store leader, are nice and good to work with

    Cons

Often don't receive schedule for the week starting on Sunday, until Thursday or Friday, occasionally even Saturday
Pay is low for the amount of responsibilities
Poor inventory storage and management, stuff is stored in the bathrooms and there is little rhyme or reason to where back stock is stored.
Poor merchandising, new inventory is sent with no instructions on where in the store it should be located, too much inventory for shelf space means things get thrown where ever.
Alphabetizing games means no priority is given to games that sell well or are on sale, hard to keep organized when neither customers or employees care
Planograms don't match up with the physical size of the actual display areas.
There will often be only one employee in the store at a time
A lot of the store policies are weird and hurt the customers more than they help
A lot of the customers are rude or combative

    Advice to Management

Your circle of life is detrimental to your employees and your customers. Consider viewing both as people instead of profit margins.

I have been working at GameStop part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nerdy atmosphere, play as you work, easy work even on "hard days", ability to rent games and accessories, awesome co-workers

    Cons

There are absolutely no hours. 6 every two weeks is absolutely unacceptable. You have to compete with other stores to get more hours but when you're the only part time employee no wants to help you. Shady sales tactics and constantly being pushed to sell extras to people who have already spent at a minimum 65+ dollars.

    Advice to Management

Give game advisers more hours or DON'T HIRE THEM. Voice your opinions about trying to sell that stupid extra stuff so they understand nobody wants it.

I have been working at GameStop part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I got a raise of a quarter for being there for a year. It's not really any different from any other sales job.

    Cons

The numbers goal you have to reach is ridiculous. The Gamestop I work at is in an extremely rural area and no one wants to spend that much money on video games.
