I have been working at Gander Mountain part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Management that seeks to truly and fully develop its sales staff. Management is very supporting in many ways--this includes, but is not limited to work/life balance, personal developement, and problem/solution assistance.

    Cons

There is no incentive to sell besides negative reinforcement and personal pride; there is no real commission incentive. Sometimes it is frusterating not being rewarded for my improvements with anything but a "nice job." Looking at the situation from a step back, while the company continues to grow, the employees' wages really do not change.

    Advice to Management

Better incentives to sell for sales staff. The one thing I would change would be to increase the desire for salesman and saleswomen to push not only the product but the credit cards that are offered.

    Pros

I like selling something I am passionate about, and I like the people I work for

    Cons

The customers that come into this location aren't the best and/or brightest

    Advice to Management

Don't sweat the small things, get stuff out the door and keep the customers happy.

I worked at Gander Mountain full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I enjoyed my employment at Gander Mountain because I worked on the eCommerce team that was very open communication and more creative than the other departments. I found management to be very helpful and willing to listen.

    Cons

My role in particular didn't have room for growth at the time, and I believe they are still working on that aspect. It made it very hard to contribute 100% every day when I knew I was going to move up any time soon. Pay was okay, could've definitely been better - even after four reviews.

    Advice to Management

    Keep on keepin' on!

    Pros

    Good work experience, appropriate wages

    Cons

There was a difficulty in work schedule communication

    Advice to Management

Find a better way to notify employees of when the work schedule is released and release the schedule on the same day at the same time so employees know when to look.

I worked at Gander Mountain full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There really weren't any pros. Salary was ok, benefits were ok, discounts were ok. Nothing was super special.

    Cons

Too much red tape for a small company. Very poor planning by executive leadership, upper management, and poor execution of a solid ecommerce plan. Stay away from here, very shaky future.

    Advice to Management

Secure your plans before hiring people only to have layoffs right before Christmas!

    Pros

Very friendly work environment and a nice employee discount if you are into outdoor gear.

    Cons

Seemed to have very mixed direction from the main office.

    Advice to Management

    improve unity of command

I have been working at Gander Mountain full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The IT and Merchandise leadership teams really matured over the past year with some experienced leaders. I really enjoy working at Gander Mountain and have a great deal of latitude to get things done. Similar to other posts there is plenty of work to go around so extra effort is appreciated and gets noticed.

    Cons

At times it feel like Gander will benefit from maturing processes for its commerce and PMO. IT Projects need more planning especially when merchandising is involved.
