I worked at Gander Outdoors part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The coworkers were like my brothers and sister. They were fun to work with. Easy to get allong with and great job.

    Cons

Some grumpy/picky customers but that at any job. Hard to please managers. Don't like when u go home sick even after working 6 of 8 hours. Some of the managers can be very hard on you. If you work a 2-10:00 shift usually don't get off until 11:30 or 12. Not exactly bad but can be annoying.

    Advice to Management

Give your workers a little slack when they get sick and still come in.

I have been working at Gander Outdoors part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good pay for entry level job compared to others. Also, some positions make commission. Management is fantastic, they do hire from the outside, but they act like they've been a part of the team forever, well trained. Great working atmosphere, no micro management. A lot of reviews talk about pushing credits, pro plans, baskets, etc. They don't "push" them. Like every other company, there are goals that needed to be met,...

I worked at Gander Outdoors part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The vendor discounts, store discounts, and in some, rare occasions scheduled hours were all decent.

    Cons

Was not compensated for earned commission in footwear. Was continually lied to about earning commission in footwear from date of hiring to the day I quit. Was not told until the first day of store opening that "part time, temporary" employees are ineligible for commission pay. Male managers ogled underage female employees, made inappropriate, sexist comments, and generally did not have a handle on employee scheduling....

    Advice to Management

Don't lie to your employees. Be accountable for the things you say. Worry less about sales, credit card signups and care plans and more about creating a strong, core team of employees THAT TRUST YOU.

I have been working at Gander Outdoors part-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

It's a great opportunity to sell and learn about products that you use. Customers are usually willing to talk about hunting or fishing which makes the job much more fun. The co-workers are great too. The employee discount and training programs are a great way to get hands on experience with products while getting some awesome new gear for yourself.

    Cons

Lot's of pressure to reach sales and credit card goals. Even when goals are met, there is constant pressure to get more with little incentive. Management will use any chance to limit benefits or bonuses. Don't expect raises very often if you are commissioned sales.

    Advice to Management

Reward employees for doing a great job, most part-time employees work very hard for little recognition. Store management shouldn't get bonuses for the work the average employee does.
