    Pros

Good benefits Great customer base Helpful management And room for growth as long as you put forth the proper effort.

    Cons

Hours constantly change from week to week so it's hard to plan your future. Needs to be an easier way to communicate with corporate management.

I have been working at Gander Outdoors full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

The company is going out of business. The "old guard" created this situation. The outlook is very bright with the new brand "Gander Outdoors" . The new CEO Marcus Lemonis is bringing a whole new philosophy for this company to the table. Old school pricing was "cost plus" take the product cost and add percentage of markup. Mr. Lemonis is doing "market minus" (same as Walmart) take the average retail market price of...

    Cons

Micro management of employees and stores. Inability to listen to input form individual stores. Excessive focus on selling credit cards and protection plans. Naively thinking they force the rest of the market to stay abreast with them as they increased margins to make more money and were oblivious to the fact that they were driving away their customer base with inflated prices.

    Advice to Management

Go back to what you are good at selling beer!

I have been working at Gander Outdoors full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

The staff and management at my store was incredible and an awesome group to work with.

    Cons

Idiots ran the place, I worked through liquidation and have had to correct the corporate ATF regulatory compliance team on multiple mistakes they made in their log books.

    Advice to Management

Gander Outdoors should retain less than 20% of the Base Camp staff, they are dangerously lazy, especially the regulatory compliance team.

I worked at Gander Outdoors full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

    Good Paid vacation and benefits

    Cons

Poor communication and leadership from management. depressing work environment due to low morale. For scheduling leads to associates covering multiple departments through entire shift . Pitching metrics and credit cards often ruins conversations with customers

    Advice to Management

The employee comes first. Without happy comfortable well trained employees customer service will always be lacking .

I worked at Gander Outdoors for more than 4 years

    Pros

Discounts are decent but only if you want gander mountain products that will fall apart in first year. Industry discounts are much better. Didn't buy much from store over last year.

    Cons

Management is pulled around by empty threats of bosses flying into town to visit and fire people if things aren't perfect. Credit cards are the most important thing here. You could have a $5000 transaction and do half the days sales goal and it wouldn't matter if you didn't get a card. Also selection of new products has disappeared in the last year. I can count on one hand the number of different or new firearms added...

I worked at Gander Outdoors part-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Very Few. Discount, some decent employees to work with, not at crazy as Big Box Retail. Can slack off at work if you hide good enough..

    Cons

Everything, Pushing high interest Credit cards, PUSHING worthless protection plans, LOUSY and WORTHLESS management, Upper Management, and Corporate Management. Including HR!!! If you are harassed, verbal, sexual or with any of the "protected" threats they do not believe you. If you contact upper management they will turn the tables on you and blame you. Watch out women.... not a company to work for, you will not...

I worked at Gander Outdoors full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

You can move up if willing to relocate and are willing to work 65 hours a week for pittance of pay. Even if you didn't have a highschool degree as long as you kiss enough butt and are willing to make gander a life commitment you can be a DM

    Cons

Pay sucks, management has no training in form of company driven management school. If you have a family with children this company doesn't care. Wants you to give up your life to work 60+ hours a week making 40,000 for a salary manager. They are dependent on firearm sales that are self driven based on political tide.

    Advice to Management

    Go to college.

I have been working at Gander Outdoors full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

3.5 discounts, 30% off gander related products and 30% off clearance, Hours are typical retail, vacation can be taken before being earned

    Cons

Upper management is terrible and has high turnover, Company likes to fire hard workers, Only keeps yes man associates, hours are poor for sales associates, Store management has poor associate and customer relation skills. New stores look bright and vibrant, old stores are dark and dingy. Female associates earn far less then male associates in same position

    Advice to Management

Company model is a dinosaur. Stop degrading female associates and move into the 21st century.
