I have been working at Gander Outdoors part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Nice co-workers, comfortable environment. Always hiring.

    Cons

You never know what you'll be doing from day to day--multitasking abounds, Low salary, unpredictable scheduling, crappy computers and de-activation equipment-- very slow and often go offline. Checkout lines disorganized and co-mingled with hunting license issue and returns. Always pushing hard to sell outrageously high interest credit cards and product protection plans. Massive employee turn-over rate.

    Advice to Management

Hire enough staff to effectively run the store.

I worked at Gander Outdoors part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Very Few. Discount, some decent employees to work with, not at crazy as Big Box Retail. Can slack off at work if you hide good enough..

    Cons

Everything, Pushing high interest Credit cards, PUSHING worthless protection plans, LOUSY and WORTHLESS management, Upper Management, and Corporate Management. Including HR!!! If you are harassed, verbal, sexual or with any of the "protected" threats they do not believe you. If you contact upper management they will turn the tables on you and blame you. Watch out women.... not a company to work for, you will not...

I have been working at Gander Outdoors part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Everyone I work with is super friendly. The managers genuinely care about their employees and there is a community atmosphere.

    Cons

You are pushed to get people to sign up for credit cards and sell them protection plans on pretty much everything with no compensation. Your hours depend on performance so if you aren't a good salesperson, you won't get many hours.

    Advice to Management

Don't make hours dependent solely on credits and protection plans. Some people are really friendly and good with customers, but aren't able to convince people that another credit card is a good idea.

I worked at Gander Outdoors full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

A great company to work for, vacations and work balance is great. Management work well together, and spend a lot of time training the staff.

      Cons

Company spends a lot of time on credit cards sales, baskets sales, and pro plan sales. Need to more concerned on customer service and sales.

I worked at Gander Outdoors full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Great discounts. you get to work with the products you love if you are an outdoors person.

      Cons

limited payroll, and hours especially for part timers. put to much effort into getting credit card applications and were reprimanded if you didn't get enough along with pro plans and summit plans

      Advice to Management

more money for payroll. more inventory that fits the area the store is in. talk to and listen to the employees that are interacting with the customers and know what they want

I worked at Gander Outdoors part-time for more than a year

      Pros

Great people that work there, great discounts at times. Product lines sold very for the most part decent. Employees that work their department generally knew about what they were selling

      Cons

Upper/district management didn't care much for the people doing the work. Way to much focus was place on obtaining credit card sales and protection plans. Constantly changing the floor plans around.

      Advice to Management

      Talk to your employees and.....listen!

I worked at Gander Outdoors part-time for more than a year

      Pros

3point5 and store discounts! Take advantage of these while you are employed! One of the best parts of the company. Hard to beat at any other high end chain.

      Cons

Terrible management. Just awful. Terrible relationships with their employees. Only want to milk you for your time and barely scrape by with paying you. Our store manager would reprimand us for not offering Summit, Credit Card, etc. but would mark down guns for over half off to talk customer into signing up for GMCC! Very crooked management.

      Advice to Management

Start promoting from within your company. Stop bringing in hardlines management that has no knowledge of firearms. Turnover wouldn't be so terrible if you gave employees a motivating factor to work for this company.

I have been working at Gander Outdoors part-time for less than a year

      Pros

Great management for the most part. The pay is really nice, and commission really helps. The give you a lot of freedom when it comes to making decisions.

      Cons

The hours are really come and go for the most part. They also push credit cards and warranties really hard.

      Advice to Management

The management is doing well, I really enjoy the attitude that the store manager has and the way he carries himself around staff and customers.
