I worked at Gander Outdoors part-time for more than a year

    Pros

I liked the job and the people I worked with. Decent employee discounts

    Cons

Really pushed the credit card sales to the point customers wouldn't talk to sales associates. some managers were on a power trip. Very little incentive to actually sell the cards

    Advice to Management

hire new managers that treat employees like humans

I have been working at Gander Outdoors full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Great for beginner sales people. Incentive pay in addition to competitive hourly wages. Generous employee discounts and free GoodSam Roadside. Very flexible if looking for part time hours. Definitely potential for growth.

    Cons

It’s still retail. Hours and scheduling can be a hassle especially if you are a key holder. Part timers are obviously first to get hours slashed however you will still feel the effects of hours being cut as a full timer. Prices and layouts change constantly and shelves/products remain empty for weeks at times. Lacking a consistent flow of customers, stores look virtually empty too often.

    Advice to Management

Don’t lose sight of employees that care about the business products and customers. Everyone is NOT replaceable.

I have been working at Gander Outdoors part-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

    employee discounts, health benefits.

    Cons

If you enjoy being a miserable person, than this is the place for you. Every project has to be done yesterday. There is no time for customer interaction. The loyalty programs are pushed so hard to every customer that it makes customers not want to come back. Employees jobs are threatened everyday if they don't get their number of customers to sign up for the loyalties. I have witnessed several employees crying because...

    Advice to Management

Get a grip on reality. Retail is dying. Not everyone HAS to be a member of every loyalty program. The company does not offer the most incentives compared to other companies. No one offers training on how to be a better sales person, its just a "do it better" attitude.

I worked at Gander Outdoors part-time

    Pros

Employee discount is good that's all, well pay is good, if they knew how to schedule people respectfully, which they do not.

    Cons

No direction, organization, does not work around employee availability. State its entirely new company and vision, yet employs old mountain management that have old mindset from mountain days. Uses your metric average to dictate schedule hours. To many passwords to remember for simple tasks.

    Advice to Management

If your going to be a "New" Company start new management teams.
