I worked at Gannett Healthcare Group (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great people to work with and a great product for nurses and other healthcare professionals

    Cons

Sold to another company for its assets.

    Advice to Management

Please use the people and resources you have to their best advantage. Decisions under the new management seem to emphasize ideas over execution. They're also in too much of a hurry to grow big and make money rather than cultivate a good product and cultivate loyal consumers of that product.

I worked at Gannett Healthcare Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are some talented a people there.

    Cons

Lot's of favoritism and promotion of people who did not have talent or knowledge of the industry.

    Advice to Management

Understand your customers needs and the business of healthcare and publishing. Stop promoting and rewarding those who do not have knowledge or talent. Listen to those who may not be as "flashy" or in the "cool" group but who do good work, are professional, honest, thoughtful and willing to disagree with you to maintain the company's and their own professional ethics.

    Pros

It was a job and that's all I can say about it.

    Cons

Management completely ignored requests from employees about having 40 hours returned.

    Advice to Management

    Treat your employees better.

I worked at Gannett Healthcare Group full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great group of core employees who have personal commitments to the company. Found some lifelong friends. Somewhat flexible schedules for management, but long hours expected in return (not a problem for me). Caring attitude for the most part, even when solutions weren't forthcoming. I think they have the best interest of their readers at heart - especially the old school nurses. Being part of Gannett was a great experience - I wish that the healthcare group had gotten more support from the parent company.

    Cons

Too many people were elevated to Vice President level for such a small division - there must be 20 VPs for a staff of less than 120. Leaves fewer staff to do the actual work. Too many grumpy, old school CHI employees stink up the place. Very understaffed sales team supports a huge art and education team - no logic to that at all. Many long time employees refuse to embrace the digital age. Management told us that raises were frozen for many years, which was a lie I discovered after I left the company. Cost-cutting turned out to be just for the benefit of selling off the company. Digital and IT shortcomings are an embarrassment.

    Advice to Management

Explain why a company that sells digital products hasn't invested in technology? The website isn't even mobile-friendly. If you want more sales, hire a bigger team, and pay them well. You've made some strides recently, hopefully the trend will continue.

    Pros

Predictable 8 to 5 schedule. Never had to respond to urgent late night emails.

    Cons

No raises in three years despite good performance reviews. No advancement opportunities and reduced budgets. Terrible company health plan.

    Advice to Management

Invest in profitable parts of the business. Ultimately, Gannett sold off the division so curious what new owners will do.

  9. "Work is extremely rewarding on a personal level."

    Pros

Variety of tools to work with to build a pipeline, orchestrate a plan, and deliver.

    Cons

Too many rules, different ones depending on who your manager is.

    Advice to Management

Live and let live and reward those who are making their goals, and quotas, and develope strategies to assist those who just aren't for one reason or another meeting their goals and sales targets.

I have been working at Gannett Healthcare Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Growth opportunity is there. Autonomy and schedule work for me.

    Cons

The one drawback: by far the worst benefits package of any position I've ever held. The deductible is so high that I will never reach it (without something terrible happening). So I will pay out of pocket for regular needs with this plan. Horrible.

I worked at Gannett Healthcare Group full-time

    Pros

People in the company are great to be around, the atmosphere is stress free. Great name to add to the résumé experience.

    Cons

Cheap approach when it comes to employee compensation.
Coming from print background, it's hard to change the mindset and adapt to the new media era. Old staff wants to secure the job as long as possible and the excuse is that Nurses are old and need old and traditional media... Until that changes, the company will struggle like any other print medium.

    Advice to Management

Training not good... need to figure things out on your won. Good luck...
