•Managers focus on emphasizing credit cards (Gap cards)

I worked at Gap (More than a year)

    Pros

International apparel company with broad community involvement

    Cons

In flux of establishing amazing product that both consumers and employees can stand behind.

    Advice to Management

-Focus more on sustainable changes vs. flavor of the week promos that cause instability within the organization and faith of the customers.

I have been working at Gap part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Small teams Interesting, innovative projects Very smart people Doesn't feel like a cutthroat environment like you see at some competitive companies Stock Internal education system to learn everything from management skills to programming Quiet work areas Beautiful campus Start up feel Doesn't feel like big company Ability to make things happen quickly If you see something you want to change or take on, go for it! VER…

    Cons

It can be challenging sometimes figuring out where or how to get information needed for a project Promotion/advancement is totally up to you to initiate Everyone is smart, talented and motivated so you would need to do something pretty remarkable to be noticed as "special" Can be lots of ambiguity, but mainly because a lot of what is being done hasn't necessarily been done before

    Advice to Management

More coaching to employees so they have a better understanding of how to advance. Other than that, very happy.

    Pros

Flexible hours and good bennefits if you can get full time

    Cons

Hard to get promoted, and it's been getting harder and harder to work there as gap keeps adding responsibilities on and taking hours away.

I have been working at Gap part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Nice coworkers and managers. Easy to get time off. enjoy helping customers.

    Cons

Hard to get hours. they are always hiring. Too many employees. Everyone is lucky to get 1 or 2 shifts per week. In order to get a break you have to work a 4 hour hour shift. Our manager schedules everyone 3 hours and 45 minutes so he does not have to give anyone a break. He calls people in offering them a four hour shift, then cuts the last 15 minutes. now they are giving us 3 hour shifts. It is hardly worth the time and gas to drive in.
The clothing has been difficult to sell. The styles are horrible. I was told they fired their designer and the styles would get better this fall. I am looking forward to that.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees better. Most of the good employees find better jobs. You wouldn't have to keep hiring if you just treat your strong sellers better.

I have been working at Gap part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The employee discount and benefits are great. My supervisors are nice, and the work is really simple. they're beginning to have everyone cross-trained in multiple departments witch is great because it allows you to work a bit extra if you want to.

    Cons

I do not get nearly enough hours. I can go weeks with only working a single four hour shift. I wouldn't have anything negative to say otherwise.

    Advice to Management

Only hire people that you can afford.
