I have been working at Gap full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Having the opportunity to make a change for the company. Being able to grow from a sales associate into a management position within the company.

    Cons

Poorly screened sales associates. Lack of motivation, enthusiasm and value for the gap brand. Customers not appreciating the company. Poorly trained new hires.

    Advice to Management

Recognize the value of managers who do the work instead of the time managers have been there. Unreasonable expectations of when to get projects done.

I worked at Gap part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There really aren't many pros to working here. The employee discount is very good. You can easily get time off if you are part time.

    Cons

Communication is lacking a lot. The company purposely keeps you under hours to ensure you don't become full time so you don't have to receive benefits. Don't plan on having a steady income with this job. Terrible hours. No room for growth within the company, it is not encouraged.

    Advice to Management

    Treat lower level associates better.

    Pros

A lot of nice co workers. Actually looked forward to working with them daily.

    Cons

Hours are not consistent and have been getting less hours. Have no work/life balance.
Management needs improving. Need to communicate better .

    Advice to Management

Understand and listen to the associates more often. A lot of them are not content.

I have been working at Gap part-time

    Pros

The job paid well enough for me, they didn't kill me with hours, and for some reason the work day always flew by.

    Cons

They just didn't always give me a lot of days to work.

I worked at Gap (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible , Summer Fridays, casual wear.

    Cons

no guidance, poor communication, poor training, manipulative

    Advice to Management

I was hired on as a freelance under the Global Inventory Team and upper management was manipulative. I was let go without any explanation and there was absolutely no support. Treated the temps like nothing.

I have been working at Gap full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Love what I do
Lots of workshops and resources to help you develop
    Great Benefits and PTO
Expands your knowledge of visual merchandising

    Cons

Never enough hours to get everything done
    Work/Life Balance is a struggle
Do lots of planning and mapping from home
Hard to move up past the store level
Reviews for raises don't adequately measure my work or productivity

    Advice to Management

Merchandisers are unfairly reviewed! Don't measure us by Gap Card numbers or CES scores that don't reflect any of the work we do.
If you want a 24hr new product turn around time you have to give is more hours!

I worked at Gap (More than a year)

    Pros

    Flexible schedule and understanding managers

    Cons

Low Pay, but minimum wage in NYC is now $11.00 an hour so they probably raised it.

    Advice to Management

    Stop micromanaging

I worked at Gap full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good Work/Life Balance
Not strict when it comes to hours as long as work is done
Overall appreciate the companies world views
    Great people within design teams
Effort to utilize more sustainable options going forward

    Cons

    Merchandiser driven product
Hyper focused so not always that creative
We had an R & D team, but most exploratory fabrics or trims don't stay in due to cost limitations.
Effort to include designers in initial concepts and overall print & pattern development is minimal.

    Advice to Management

Work on the creative culture within the office so everyone feels apart of the process. Limit the amount of back & forth with merchandising to allow for more design empowerment.
