    Pros

It was one of the best experiences of my life. I will never forget it. I won an intern program. I developed a whole line for them.

    Cons

They made a lot of promises to me while I was there. I was young and naive, and said yes to everything. After all of it, they never even offered me a full time.

I worked at Gap part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The Gap does a great job of hiring quality people for management. I worked in a few different stores and literally all of the managers were at least good (competent) in dealing with employees as human beings (most of them were very good) so that is a huge pro. Management was also very flexible with allowing you to choose how much you wanted to work (flexibility). Another pro for me was that there were a range of different shift lengths from 4 to 8 hours in length. So depending on what might work best for an individual they were able to schedule shorter or longer shifts. I am sure this is same for all retail companies, but it is an additional way to be able to accommodate their employees.

    Cons

The only real con I would state is that the company culture and policies seem to be dictated solely by their corporate HQ. This is probably true of many companies, but in the world of retail it might be more difficult because the storefront is so far removed from the corporate perspective, both geographically and mentally. I feel like this large separation on a daily basis could make deciding on and enacting appropriate policies more difficult, especially on a local level.

    Advice to Management

Management always did the best job they could with what were often trying conditions (unforeseen situations or consequences). If I have to give advice to upper management in corporate I would say focus just a little less on the bottom line and stock prices and a little more on keeping your employees and customers happy. Not a lot, just a little.
