I worked at Gap part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Nice managers and friendly co-workers

    Cons

No hours, inconsistent work schedule, and way too much pressure on sales associates. I think that Gap is going out of business. Every other day there is a sale for 50% off everything and more and more Gap stores are closing. Because the company isn't making money, the managers put a ton of pressure on sales associates to be aggressive selling Gap cards and clothes and this made working there very stressful and uncomfortable. If the store doesn't make enough money each hour, then people are sent home. If you need to kill some time and money isn't an issue, then work here. If you have bills or want to actually make some money, look elsewhere.

I worked at Gap part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It is not too stressful. And the coworkers make working at the gap worth it. Flexible work schedule hours are also a bonus.

    Cons

Customers can be very cheap. A fast pacwd stressful environment. Both of which come with ALL retail stores. Bosses were not helpful.

I worked at Gap as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Coworkers are pleasant to work with
    - Management is acceptable
    - Training is adequate
    - Culture is typically alright
    - They have a coffee machine

    Cons

    - Stressful environment with little to no upwards mobility
    - Low pay coupled with low vacation time
    - Horrible hours; you have to bid for certain timeframes and times are chosen based on your ranking, which is based on arbitrary grading criteria
    - Extremely restrictive break and lunch times -- they actively time you and you are heavily punished for going over even slightly
    - Overworked with empty promises of possible fulltime positions; prepare to work the full 8 hours with no time to rest
    - Technology is extremely old and prone to breaking down; prepare to work the same problems over and over
    - In-house wiki is consistently outdated

    Advice to Management

Hire more employees or improve the technology; the workload is ridiculous for what you ask of employees.

I worked at Gap part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Co-workers could be great. Somewhat low stress except during holiday season.

    Cons

High Turnover Rate, low-pay, typical retail job. Mandatory holidays work hours.

    Advice to Management

Stop pushing sales over quality customer service. Stop treating associates as replaceable.

I worked at Gap (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I was in Brand Management for about 4 yrs. We received a great discount on all brands, met some great people and worked with customers. A good place to get acclimated to retail level branding. Some great Brand Managers to learn from. Perfect for someone wanting a past-paced environment. Great Benefits.

    Cons

The management was beyond worthless. This company isn't for people looking for long-term careers. My pay was horrible from the start. The schedule they kept us on was crazy (long hours, 7 days a week, overnights, leaving work at 10pm back at six am). I did not have a life outside of my work. The number of hours you receive for staffing is about half of what you need to get any job done (correctly), which was a constant frustration. Your well being wasn't even a thought. Years of the above burns you out.
