I have been working at Gap part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours that work with nearly every schedule
Management is understanding and relaxed, along with knowledgable and hard working
    Atmosphere is friendly
Coworkers from all walks of life, of all ages, meaning you will find people you relate to
50% discount at Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, and the other store (forgot the name)
Customers are usually friendly or content
Everyone functions well as a team
Decent pay for a sales associate position
Work in a mall, so I made friends with other employees from other places and its a nice location to relax during lunch
Encouraged to park near each other for closing shift for safety
We try our best to make sure the store is neat and tidy
    See similar coworkers almost daily
Managers will stand up for you
No uniform; you can wear almost anything as long as it (obviously) doesnt have logos and looks nice
Job is very simple and does not require much

    Cons

Sometimes we are given too little time for a project so we dont finish (I do enjoy the challenge though)
Once in a blue moon, you get a rude customer. Other times they may be snobby (easy to ignore)
Some customers are really disgusting (and we gotta clean it up....)
Air conditioner turns on at opening and off at closing, so if you work before open hours, you better come in shorts and a tank top!
Back and feet always hurt at the end of a shift
    Clothes made in Vietnam....(feels unethical)
Know fashion before coming to work: customers sometimes ask for fashion advice and it can be difficult (but usually they know what they want)
Gap cards, Gap cards, Gap cards
You cant work more than 40 hours
    Weekends are crazy and stressful
They hire managers from elsewhere; either other Gap stores or just like an ad online (this does mean that the managers who work there are good, however)
Little room for advancement if you are looking for a good, long term career without a degree
Sometimes you might have to do heavy lifting
Training is only like half a shift; its more of a "learn on the go" job (I am ok with this but can see how others do not like that)
Displays/layout changes every month or so, which makes it confusing at first (and if a customer asks you where something is, you will be walking around the store using your best guess!)
If someone shoplifts, even if we see them, we cant do anything

    I worked at Gap part-time

    Pros

Flexible, stress free, simple, great for first job

    Cons

Stagnant if you don't aspire to grow either with or without the company.

    I worked at Gap part-time

    Pros

Very generous discount - half off + additional discounts

    Cons

Selling brand loyalty cards can be intense (selling one a month was the minimum I skid by with in a low traffic region)

    Advice to Management

Focus less on brand loyalty credit card scamming

I have been working at Gap as a contractor

    Pros

Great teams, people are hardworking, smart, and fun to work with. Very fast paced so no time to be bored. A great working experience that will definitely help when I have interviews for my next job.

    Cons

Relies a lot on contractors. Marketing has a lot of power and always comes only with demands (and attitudes).

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees, convert contractors that are worth it. You are losing great talent, and that will ultimately impact your bottom line.

I worked at Gap part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great culture, fun atmosphere. Loved most of the people I worked with.

    Cons

Not enough register training, you cannot just throw someone on a register and expect them to learn as they are checking out customers. Also, you may be prepared to work a 6 hour shift and are sent home right away because the store is so quiet.

    Advice to Management

Better training for tasks like working in the back room and on the registers.

I have been working at Gap full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Gap has a fun work atmosphere. Provides full time employees with amazing employee discounts and benefits. Discounts at other places as well through Gap Marketplace.

    Cons

Work/ life balance can be a struggle. Gap Inc is so far behind on technology updates compared to other retail companies. Constant shifting of the managerial structure in stores and downsizing. No real training with high expectations.

    Advice to Management

Better training plans. Relying on managers with absolutely no training to train associates is a recipe for poor customer service.
