I have been working at Gap full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good PTO and benefits. Also good work life balance. Employee Discounts are relatively nice. Team atmosphere. Good HR department and additional resources for employees.

    Cons

Relatively low opportunities for growth as the company is not as strong as it was in the late 90's. Stores are closing. Unrealistic sales goals and credit card goals set for stores to achieve bonus. Fashion is out of touch with today's styles.

    Advice to Management

Fix the fashion. Make goals realistic to motivate the team to achieve bonus.

    I worked at Gap part-time

    Pros

Great company values, co-workers are helpful and friendly.

    Cons

    Management
    Micromanagement
    Pressure for sales
Pressure even for the greeting position

At first, I thought that I would enjoy this retail job coming from an great retail background. I was wrong, I should have known from the interview and orientation that this was going to be a very strict and uncomfortable environment. With a background in retail I thought that what I was doing was good enough, however, the store I worked at didn't seem to think I was doing it 'good enough' to their very high standards. Lots of micromanaging. I felt if they didn't like what I was doing, they would cut my shift, which is not fair. They hire more people, yet, don't give hours/cut shifts. Management are good at working with balancing your work life and personal life. The only thing about management is that you can tell they only care about themselves not really the employees.

    Advice to Management

Take it easy! You may not realize it, but you putting pressure on your employees for the littlest things make for a very hostile environment. It can become very uncomfortable. Maybe that's why you have a high turnover with employees...
