    toxic, stressful environment

May 10, 2022 - Retail Associate in Seattle, WA

    Pros

    Only pro is the discount.

    Cons

Managers pressured and pushed me to sell Gap cards like it was the only thing that matters on this earth. Even if I was doing great in every other aspect, if I wasn't selling Gap cards they acted like I was a poor employee. Overall a very toxic work environment and you could literally feel the toxicity in the air. Would not recommend. I quit because they were overworking me and I was done dealing with the disgusting obsession with selling credit cards.

    Pros

You got points for opening Gap cards and they can work with your schedule for the most part

    Cons

The managers play favorites and you need to have more than 20 hours of availability throughout the week which is hard for people going to school. Very strict about how many hours you can consecutively work. Prided themselves on paying more than minimum wage but they do not. If you didn't open up that many cards then you didn't get that many hours (unless they liked you); but if you are on the sales floor it is inherently harder to get cards so it is an endless cycle

    Great Job

Jan 17, 2013 - Sales Associate in Brooklyn, NY

    Pros

Everyday is the same routine when entering. You must clock in and then go straight to your LOD. here they will let you know what sales and promotions are going on and what is our goal by the end of the day. Either opening a specific amount of gap cards and how much money we have to make. Co workers are great to get along with. Managers are very respectable people since they know how your working. The discount is AWESOME! Plus you get a discount at Banana Republic & Old Navy

    Cons

The pressure to open gap cards. During holidays, it gets super messy and crazy. Some customers aren't too nice. After holidays, hours are cut.

    Pros

-Great discounts on merchandise-- 50% off full price items and additional 10% off sales at GAP, Old Navy, and Banana Republic!

    Cons

Selling GAP store cards... the management staff push you to get customers to open the cards to meet their personal metrics for the store. My location made it a competition monthly and put up a chart to see everyones progress, but didn't reward anyone for being a top seller. Also, I found that my store didnt honor overtime wages. They clocked overtime hours like regular work hours.

    Hard work for minimal compensation

Jun 11, 2013 - Logistics in San Francisco, CA

    Business Outlook

    Pros

The Gap typically hires friendly associates that are easy to get along with.

    Cons

Early hours for anyone working in operations/logistics. Sales associates are pressured to sell an increasing amount of Gap (credit) cards regardless of amount sold. Store level managers constantly push for harder work regardless of what was actually accomplished.

    Pros

You get to work with very nice people. Nice rewarding system too. It is a very nice environment to work if you know how to convince customer to open Gap Credit cards

    Cons

Once the festive period is over(i.e Christmas etc) the hour sucks! too much emphasis placed on credit cards. Managers puts too much pressure on associates to get customers to open credit card. Trust me, It's frustrating at times.

    Sales job with retail pay

Dec 13, 2010 - Sales Associate in Hurst, TX

    Pros

You get an amazing 50% discount, it makes it very easy to afford the clothes. Taking time off is pretty easy, though I had some conflicts with the GM.

    Cons

OVER importance of 'gap cards' gap credit cards which you are forced to almost force on customers. Must sell and add more clothes to customers purchases. In my opinion way to much work and too much of a sales job to be paid for retail with NO comission.

    It was good!

    Jun 28, 2011 - Sales Associate/Cashier in Frisco, TX
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

I was proud to work there..Quality of the merchandise was really good and I was glad to sell it to customers.

    Cons

The managers would too much emphasis on getting Gap Credit Cards and not much attention was given to recognising good salesperson skills. Different managers would ask for different chores...one would ask to make sure the store looks perfect and the other would ask to make sure to sell and get as many gap cards as possible without maintaining the store.
