    I worked at Gardiner & Theobald full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - At or above market, compensation;
    - 401K matching

    Cons

    - Poor communication between the Project Management (PM) and Cost Management (CM) teams;
    - Business development is not encouraged;
    - Senior management doesn't encourage clients to rely on PMs and CMs, but instead encourage them to look to senior management

    Advice to Management

    - Be more transparent (with PM and CM teams) about what's being done to get more work from clients. It's difficult for a PM or CM to build a relationship with a client if decisions are being made that they aren't privvy to.
    - Encourage business development outside of in-office happy hour
    - Trust that the people you hire can do their job
    - Stop treating yourselves as an exception to the rule and begin to implement what works for your competitors (i.e. get organized templates, benchmarking, PM/CM responsibility matrices, etc.)

    Management treats you like cogs in a machine, and finance manager makes life there very hard.

    Pros

    Intelligent co-workers, lively conversations, pizza fridays, good location, interesting collaboration-based culture

    Cons

    Pay, fraudulent/false advertising of positions when hiring, inefficient accounting/finance department

    Advice to Management

    Replace the older, uneducated "accountant" (actually just a bookkeeper) in your New York office with a recent graduate, or graduate student. You will save money, retain more talent, and find that work can be done much more efficiently once the dinosaur is extinct.

    Be honest in advertising future positions - you can't retain talent if you mislead that talent as to what they are going to be doing.

    Continue providing resources to fuel a lively culture that, along with compensation for PM/CM's, will help you to retain talent.

    Pros

    They have a very lively and social culture and the benefits available are great. They also have some great projects and people.

    Cons

    The pay is not very good when compared to the market and there is not always enthusiasm to entertain payrises

    Advice to Management

    Look out for and reward loyalty. Sometimes it is better to pay more for the people you have then it is to pay more to bring others in.

    I have been working at Gardiner & Theobald full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Very social, went to lots of team drinks and there are loads of different sports teams you can join. You work hard and play hard. Good internal training.

    Cons

    Company information data needs to be shared better internally. No room for progression for support staff.

    Advice to Management

    Career progression for support staff would be great - we can take on more responsibilities and ease the admin workload from the team. A better intranet with all information in one place for submissions, etc. would be very helpful. At the moment, info is scattered across the firm and one needs to be a detective to find it all out.
