I have been working at Gardner Edgerton USD 231 (More than 8 years)

    Pros

currently has clear and transparent leadership
    great students and parents
    mostly good administration

    Cons

lack of clear and transparent leadership until recently
extra duty contracts not adequately compensated (at least below the head football coach position)

    Advice to Management

Please continue to treat your staff as the professionals they are in spite of issues with state funding

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Gardner Edgerton USD 231 full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I have had a good experience in this district. I feel that my principal and coworkers are supportive. There is minimal gossip and drama at my school, which I feel is rare.

    Cons

The district has grown a lot in the last few years. Hiring of additional staff has not kept up with the student growth. I think most staff feel pretty much stretched to their limit.

    Advice to Management

Realize that people will begin to look elsewhere if additional staff are not added to lighten the load. Not sure how much longer I can work over maximum capacity like this.

I have been working at Gardner Edgerton USD 231 full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Small town feel district, good benefits, people are friendly, easy to contact HR for questions

    Cons

They don't give raises. Would be nice to see more documents via the web versus paper.

    Advice to Management

Give raises to paras each year, other districts in the area do.

I have been working at Gardner Edgerton USD 231 full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -Good collaboration with colleagues
-Small town feel - you don't just feel like a number
    -Family oriented community
-Despite recent changes in administration and local media attention, I really enjoy working for this school district. Coming from a larger school district (that was not local), I much prefer working for USD 231.

    Cons

Administration is in the midst of change
Pay is lower than some local school districts (however, it is also comparable to Blue Valley SD)

I worked at Gardner Edgerton USD 231 part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Children too old for daycare, able to work while they attend school. Do not work over major holidays and off from the end of May until enrollment in July.

    Cons

Classified employees are expendable. Employee of public shool district, yet classified employees do not have the benefit of tuition reimbursement. Health and dental benefits are not offered to classified employee.

    Advice to Management

Just because a person is a classified employee does not mean they are not well educated.

    Pros

Great environment to work in. Love the staff and the kids.

    Cons

School district is experiencing rapid growth. Thus being said, it is hard for facilities to be built to keep up with the growth.

    Advice to Management

All in all, the management does a good job within usd231. Although, there is always room for improvement within a work environment.
