I worked at Gardner-Webb University full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Gardner-Webb attracts people (staff, faculty, and students) that are quite uniformly nice. The campus is pedestrian, relatively safe, and easy to access; Boiling Springs has a definite charm. Bonds with co-workers form easily and serve as awesome support systems. Interacting with students will absolutely make your day.

    Cons

Pay is good in comparison to the average in Cleveland County, but not remotely comparable to that of its competitors in other counties. GW is at a crossroads, deciding whether to "remain faithful" to antiquated culture or modernize in order to be successful.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent about management of funds. If you're going to offer a voluntary resignation package to a significant number of staff members, don't then insult them by calling it a "step forward" in a presidential statement to the press. Decide whether you are a small or a large school, and follow through in adhering to that identity.

invest more money into your athletes after all they do make up 50% of your student body

    Pros

Everyone in the office is super friendly. There are always new things to do, from giving tours to creating promotional content to checking the mail, etc.

    Cons

You can't work more than 6-8 hours, but the paycheck is decent for a current student.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Gardner-Webb University (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very caring support from the university's administration. You know in advance what the university expects of you. Plus, supervisory staff is readily available for answers. The university has a very active E-mail notification system for its employees.

    Cons

I cannot think of any negatives.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Gardner-Webb University full-time

    Pros

The people in my immediate department were very nice, competent, intelligent, and supportive.

    Cons

The upper administration is clueless and as to what really goes on in the trenches, and they are not supportive of all their faculty equally. Politics are terrible. Student recruitment is a mess, focused on quantity rather than quality.

    Advice to Management

Take some anonymous surveys of the faculty and staff and make some real changes based on feedback. Let change really come from the bottom up like you put forth in faculty meetings.
