I have been working at Garlock Sealing Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some of the best products in the world, for sure. When used, the companies dual bottom line program is really cool and good at helping people find what they really like to do in life.

    Cons

The company says all the right stuff but it ends there. My boss and the general leaders are more interested in what happened vs what will happen...they are not leading...just managing the finances and squeezing the money.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Listen to the sales team. Do what you said you were going to do.

    Pros

Good knowledge of sealing materials. Allow you to take classes to advance career. Family environment.

    Cons

Union environment causes some distrust between salaried employees and production employees. Very cold and snowy winters.

    Pros

There is nothing good to say

    Cons

Not good company, will fire you without notice very bad. No work in the company, does not have a private office. Does not focus on work ethics or core work, just focusing on timings when you come and go, really bad experience.

I worked at Garlock Sealing Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Garlock is a great place to not be, Management has no clue how to improve it's aging equipment and product lines, little or no advancement, unless your one of the "in crowd". Relatively new cafeteria is the only bright spot of the campus

    Cons

Low Salary, Bad Atmosphere, Management is clueless and only wants to CYA and blame the other guy.

    Advice to Management

    Quit

    Pros

nice people, clean office, good products, easy to learn systems

    Cons

top heavy, a lot of managers and no management, too many meetings, poor culture. CYA is promoted more than working as a team

    Advice to Management

less meetings, listen to your employees

    Pros

Good starting pay, for not having any experience or degree. Excellent benifits. Union shop, so seniority rules.

    Cons

Off shift gets the short end of the stick. No catering services offered in the evening and overnights. The usual union b.s, where senior employees don't do their jobs and find creative ways of getting out of work. Management is somewhat of a joke at times, they worry about other shifts performances, and they can't see the fact that their shift is the worse.

    Advice to Management

Bring down the hammer and enforce the rules equally to all employees. (Regardless of shift). Break the hourly, salary barrier that the company has created. We're all equal here. Maybe do a company luncheon and find ways to mingle with the people that are the reason they have their job.

I worked at Garlock Sealing Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A lot of freedom to do what you want and manage projects without micro-managers looking over your shoulders all day long. Lots of different technologies and manufacturing methods to learn about.

    Cons

Products that are decades old are build with processes and technologies that are decades old in a facility that is decades old. While there is a breadth of stuff to learn, dont expect much of today's advanced technology -- even in the newer buildings on their "renovated" campus. The vision of the organization is a moving target and priorities change frequently. Breakdown are an hourly occurrence and could be a single machine or an entire plant outage.

    Advice to Management

Management has likely changed since my departure. Lots could be gained from planning ahead more and communicating longer term visions instead of breaking news with an element of surprise. Planning leads to the best results. Be nice to your employees, dig to recognize their efforts on projects&things that may not have been part of their goals and objectives.
