I have been working at Garmin full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - Well-diversified stable company, separate segments serve numerous markets (aviation, automotive, automotive OEM, marine, outdoor, fitness)
    - Variety of types of embedded development work depending on the segment, including some interesting innovation.
    - Highly collaborative environment, emphasizes face-to-face interaction and individual ownership/initiative
    - Your role is not dictated by your title, tenure, or org chart. Pay, responsibilities, and autonomy grow organically with your initiative/contribution.
    - Plenty of opportunities for growth on either the "technical" or "management" tracks
    - Company does its own manufacturing (in US and Taiwan), very little outsourcing of any kind.
    - Good benefits
    - Approx 40hr work-week is just fine most of the time (good work-life balance)

    Cons

    - Many segments develop using languages and operating systems that aren't considered cutting edge (C/C++ and in-house OS)
    - Due to company size, some types of technical and process improvements can be difficult or slow to make.
    - Less flexible than some companies regarding when working hours occur, work from home, etc.

    Advice to Management

Keep emphasizing the diversified business model -- it brings long term stability and makes Garmin an interesting place to work.

I have been working at Garmin full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Awesome coworkers
    Decent benefits
    Lots to do

    Cons

40 hour work week, 8 hours a day (NOT counting lunch, which really makes it 9 hours a day) is the only option. Working from home on a regular basis is not an option.

    Advice to Management

Consider different work schedules/work from home options.

I have been working at Garmin full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent salary for the industry, very good health and 401k benefits, decent vacation.

    Cons

Your experience depends greatly on your manager; some managers are great and working for them is great. some managers make you wish you worked for Dilbert's boss.

    Pros

Great co-workers that had a very family feel with the team
Good work/life balance at the time
    Fun products to work with

    Cons

Very little growth opportunities within the operations group
Very structured and slow to adapt to new strategies
Lower end on compensation with little to no performance incentives

    Advice to Management

With a younger generational workforce, additional work is needed to understand and adapt career growth and compensation expectations.

    Pros

Great for the 20 somethings that are fresh out of college and need a starting point.

    Cons

Typical large corporation, there's little to no flexibility. Horrible work/life balance. Don't be late.... ever.

    Advice to Management

Recently they started using the call center as a farm for their head quarters.

I worked at Garmin full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Outrageously good benefits, interesting field of work, great team to work with. Because it's a consumer electronic company, you can actually (sometimes) see how your work affects a product being sold.

    Cons

Salary was a little lower, but the benefits made up for it. Overall it was a pretty positive experience

    Advice to Management

The drawing and staying power is your benifits and positive corporate culture. Don't give that up to try to improve profit margins for stockholders.
