I have been working at Gate 1 Travel full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - You can use creativity and hard work to steer business in a meaningful way
    - Product department is more travel friendly, usually at least once a year. Plus travel shows which might be a Con depending on preference.
    - Friendly environment with co-workers and management. It's your choice if you want to sit quietly and do your work, or if you want to try to be an influencer. Management is open to ideas if you're willing to put your ideas on the line.
    - Huge growth. Revenue has doubled since 2015 on a month by month basis. I'm betting on a large increase in management positions in the near future.

    Cons

    - Wages aren't great at the beginning. As a product team member you start at $17 / hr. For someone with a college degree and career aspirations, this may seem beneath you.

    Advice to Management

I know management understands that people are ultimately what drives business. If you focus for a little while on talent acquisition, we could have even more good minds tackling the challenges that come along with a booming business.

    Pros

Can't think of one at all...

    Cons

I truly think they are racist, the owner and several managers do not appreciate the employees. Makes for an extremely hostile work environment. Don't let the $15 hr lure you it's not worth the aggregation. There are other companies that value and appreciate hard working employees.

    Advice to Management

And you wonder why your turn over is so high!

    Pros

Nothing good about this company email because of his owner.

    Cons

Everything is downside. Owner treats every employee like garbage.

    Advice to Management

Start taking your employees seriously and give them some respect. Don't treat them like a crap.

    Pros

    - no cold calling, for the most part ppl calling in know what they want so it's fairly easy to make a sale
    - bonus twice a year depending on how long you've been with the company
    - separated sales and service department

    Cons

    - Management treats there employees like crap. I was with the company for two years and the commission structure was changed 3 times over that span with the result of paying agents less commission. After one change they thought we were "getting paid too much" and decided to retroactively change the commission structure until basically every employee revolted. They still changed it resulting in agents making less but did not do it retroactively at least.
    - The owner likes to micro manage everything which creates a very stressful environment for everyone
    - Training is too short which makes it stressful when you start. Expect about half of your hire class to quit within the first month.
    - Required to work a few weekends a quarter
    - not enough supervisors so if you have an issue you usually have to wait a while

I have been working at Gate 1 Travel (More than a year)

    Pros

Quick and easy interview process, people are always ready to help, the owner takes big care of the cleanliness of the office

    Cons

Lack of communication between departments, slow growth within the department, very strict vacation policy and no sick days

    Advice to Management

Be more open and friendlier to the employees, if you start and end the day with 'good morning' and 'good night' you won't interrupt anyone but create more positive environment

I worked at Gate 1 Travel full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good starting rate with the potential for increase, good benefits, yearly bonuses, (mostly) fun co-workers, advancement opportunities, interesting field, it's a job that at the end of the day you don't have to take your work home with you.

    Cons

Dealing with the public. Dealing with airlines. Not enough supervisors at the disposal of the agents. You have to be be on the phone all the time. Training is only a week to be a reservations agent (sales and support) and there are SO many more situations than you get trained to deal with. Sales agents work on commission so their hourly is lower. As a "support" agent you have to finish bookings made sometimes haphazardly by sales agents who only want their name on the booking for commission.

    Advice to Management

Training should be a little longer, and more floor supervisors are absolutely necessary. Managements should care less about how long the call is "holding" and more about the level of service the customer receives.

I worked at Gate 1 Travel full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pay is excellent if you are willing to work to stay proactive to close sales. Pretty casual work environment (jeans and t-shirt are acceptable). You get to talk about something that a lot of people really enjoy all day (Travel!). Steady work with plenty of overtime opportunity. Company does a good job marketing the product, so business is steady without having to cold call customers. The company offers a great product in their package tours, so it's nice to be able to stand behind the product.

    Cons

Customers can be rude pretty frequently, but that's manageable if you've ever held a customer service type of job. The training is not extensive enough for you to be good at your job when you first start. (But management is pretty cool if you make a few mistakes when you're still acclimating to the job). 30 minutes for lunch is not enough. Mandatory weekend hours.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in training new employees.
