I worked at Gate Gourmet full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Smart C - Level management

    Cons

This company has one of the worst employee cultures I have ever witnessed. Line employees are known to gossip and cause an unprofessional work environment. The sad part is that some Managers and Directors are active participants in this miss-conduct which pours fuel to those line employees to continue to with improper behaviors. Employees often collude in making the work environment a miserable place to work. As a result, this company often loses smart and talented employees for the low and stagnant performers. It is very unfortunate that senior management has not taken a serious and strong effort to address this problem. What adds to the frustration, is that employees are sometimes rewarded with bigger titles and salary increases only because of their tenure – not because of their work.

    Advice to Management

Senior Management should take a careful look at areas in HQ. There are serious issues with long time employees who are overall low performers and don’t add value to the company. In fact, they do the exact opposite. These employees often are late arrivals, find excuses to work from home, take many personal phone calls during the day, gossip and most importantly purposely resist change. As the company is trying to down size and reduce cost, these employees I described are a real financial burden to the company. Word to HR, a couple of online courses will not do the trick. Get involved in setting a professional work environment. Rid the bad apples that have existed in your company for years. If you do this, the company will attract and keep smart, professional and talented people.
