      Pros

Good product Global companies Some groups are great

      Cons

Functions r running silos Some groups spend all day speaking badly about other groups and company, such as procurement. Leader of that group sets an example and his favorites just follow the trend.

      No opinion of CEO

I worked at Gates Corporation full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

Great product adoption due to quality products and marketing. Opportunity to be part of a leader in the industry.

      Cons

Moved away from its roots and tried to adopt a culture that many employees were not happy with. Very limited upward mobility if you don't come from outside the company. People development program non-existent with the exception of one program which was loosely monitored and very "at will" by both sides of participation (mentor program).

      Advice to Management

Be who it was that made Gates, don't adopt the culture of another company. Actually and honestly value your employees as they are the ones who drive your name in the market, not having an internal development program speaks volumes to what you actually think of your existing employees.

I have been working at Gates Corporation full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

Nice work environment, building and location. As with most places, work experience is highly dependent on direct management chain.

      Cons

Too hyper focused on short term financial goals. Upward mobility dependent on how chummy you are with leadership.

      Advice to Management

Promote those most qualified. Better skills review and development.

I have been working at Gates Corporation full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Great products and material science, market leader, global reach

      Cons

Disconnected and inefficient processes, poor systems, no commitment to improving internal operating practices. Gates’s proud history, great products, and technical expertise are undercut by inefficient internal operations, a lack of direction and cohesion, and an ineffective leadership team. The company has grown organically, and the cobbled-together feel of the internal processes is crippling. There are many good,...

      Pros

Co-workers are great to be around

      Cons

Management does not have a clue. They do not allow you to do the job they pay you to do. On a scale of 1-10 micro managing would score 12

      Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. If lack of a work force cares about the job they do is what you are after

I worked at Gates Corporation full-time for less than a year

      Pros

The strategy outlined for the future of the team during the interview process sounded forward-thinking and challenging.

      Cons

The strategy outlined for the team in no way resembled our day to day experience. We were micromanaged (think keystroke counting/transaction monitoring) and belittled. Our entire team of experienced (15-23 years of experience each) professionals went forward for several months to 3 different levels of management and to HR to escalate a senior leader. This "leader" has a history of bullying, belittling, and demeaning...
