  • Good benefits and work with some good people and clients (in 7 reviews)

  • Gaylord Opryland is a great place to work (in 7 reviews)

Cons

  • Little to no room for real advancement, promotions are typically lateral moves (in 3 reviews)

I worked at Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

2nd shift kept you busy, day passes quickly. Great perks, most management does great job, very approachable. Over all fun job.

    Cons

At times, favoritism is shown to other employees in department. Can be stressful.

    Advice to Management

Think of the big picture when showing favoritism or siding with one group or another. They may expect they can get this attention over and over and you have just handed them power after jumping to conclusions because they have gathered more than one persons oppinion.

I worked at Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You really become family with your coworkers and the environment is nice to work in. Some of the "perks" are nice, especially if you're a frequent traveler.

    Cons

Once Marriott took over, the whole vibe changed - not in a good way. Hope they work things out to be as great to work for as it used to be. I essentially left because of the huge cuture change.

I have been working at Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Built in clientele when conventions are in town
Good health benefits, if full time hours
    Free lunch
    On-site health clinic
Good for Stylists that have zero experience

    Cons

Compensation upon hire was not clear about hourly and commission, they promised more than what I'm actually making. Hourly is based on commission for the week, not by the day. So you may do really well one day and make commission for the week. Meaning the rest of the week you will work for practically free.

New managers seem to let employees (with years of service) make the schedules and rules.

High turnover in spa due to new employees required to work every weekend (Sat and Sun) unless you take PTO. There is not rotating weekends.

Not conducive for employees with families/ children

Commission is low for industry (30% + 17% gratuity)

Front desk give discounts out like candy, taking from your wage, without your knowing. Reasons often have nothing to do with your service provided.

Low end color line, charging luxury prices.

As a stylists, you will do more nails than hair.

    Advice to Management

Reward talent and exceptional customer service with more compensation.
Manage the employees that think they are "above management" because of their tenure.
    Fair scheduling for ALL employees.
Salon needs updating, embarrassing to work in a salon that resembles a JC Penny salon but charging Ritz prices.
    Upgrade color line.

I worked at Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice to be part of a first class facility with many job opportunities.

    Cons

Extra large complex/campus. Parking is far away from building with lots of walking to work regardless of the weather.

    Advice to Management

Stand tall with consistency to all employees and not just to your favorites.

I worked at Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center full-time

    Pros

Great healthcare, vacation, nice fellow employees, culture

    Cons

Bonuses were taken away, moral was greatly lowered, hiring freezes, too few employees, no raises

    Advice to Management

Get back to the core elements that made Gaylord a great place to work. Value your employees more.
