Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

    Pros

There are talented and kind people working there who do want to see the best for the company and the projects they work on.

    Cons

Little room for growth. Very unorganized pipeline at times leading to uneven workloads and people not knowing the amount of work that goes into an asset/sequence, lack of communication. Not diverse.

Amazing culture, veteran leadership and team, taking steps to do it right!

    Pros

Culture - very senior, smart games people, passion for art and taking chances Collaboration - open-door policy where really any decision-maker is available Business - with game development, publishing, the merger, excellent partnerships. Gearbox will be around!! Diverse - HUUUUUGE focus on diversity & inclusion & belonging. It's a focus, and Gearbox even fights with the state legislature when something is not right. Good to be on a team that makes efforts and puts themselves out there publicly. Very energetic executive team, including Randy Pitchford. Instills confidence and optimism and appear to be a forward-thinking group to do what's best for Gearbox.

    Cons

Training - sink or swim in some respects. You have to figure it out since the processes weren't fully in place for someone new. Compensation - not known for going "above and beyond" it's definitely fair. But perhaps it's not as bad as it seems since this is one of the most tenured games organizations in the industry. So people are clearly sticking around whether it be for compensation or other factors.

Prioritizes Creativity, Employee Growth, and Business Ambition

Jul 14, 2021 - Producer in Frisco, TX

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Leadership prioritizes your growth if you prove you can get results. There are always multiple projects ongoing at Gearbox - it’s not a one-trick-pony studio. You get to ship something fairly often at Gearbox, rather than waiting for 5+ years before shipping anything at all. The environment is familial, and everyone just expects you to be an adult and do good work.

    Cons

Sometimes our ambition gets ahead of us and we have to play catch up. The DFW area is unattractive to some talent, despite the pretty decent cost of living. Some employees who have been here for 10+ years can be stubborn to work with.

Public opinion isn't always how it actually is

Jul 15, 2021 - Producer in Frisco, TX
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Great benefits and amazing culture. Extremely inclusive and friendly towards all. Salaries that are close to (if not already at) average, especially for Texas, and especially considering royalty/profit sharing. Amazing office that caters to employees. Stable and stress-free. Active removal of toxic/negative team-members and leaders.

    Cons

Poor mislead public opinion of the company that decreases morale/pride. Small barrier between executive staff and other staff. Not a huge diversity in dev projects.
