I worked at Geek Powered Studios full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

    1. Real-world agency experience I cannot in good conscience mark Geek Powered as 1-star (as much as I want to) because I learned a lot there. I learned important skills relevant to my discipline, such as how to interact with clients, how to work with a team, and how to meet strict deadlines. There was enough freedom in my job for me to grow and improve my skills, and even make mistakes. It helped me gain the necessary...

    1. Turn-over and burnout I worked here for about two years, and saw almost the entire company turn over. Some departments even multiple times. Some people were fired, but many just quit. The burnout here is real and intense, almost cyclical. Employees start out bright-eyed and enthusiastic but get beat down into cynical, overworked zombies in just a few months. 2. "We will take any client" mentality I probably can't...

    Advice to Management

Unfortunately, I do not think it is possible for this company to change unless the CEO changes. I guess I would say: Treat your employees like people. Give them with the respect and dignity they deserve. Also, try to learn from your mistakes! Stop being content with the same mistakes happening over and over again in cycles.

I have been working at Geek Powered Studios

    Pros

I've been with the company for a bit of time now. I have to say joining it was the right step for me. Mainly this is due to working with others that possess tons of experience and wouldn't hesitate to help a co-worker out. I've learned a lot from the company and everyday there's something useful to learn or find out about. Good co-workers, good culture and the like has made the experience a good one.

    Cons

None that I can think of right now

I worked at Geek Powered Studios full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are a few talented and nice people left.

    Cons

I’ll make this short, just like the amount of time most of the employee’s spend at this company. I’d like to start off with this little fact: 18 people have left in a little over a year (summer of 2017 to spring of 2018). 6 of them fired. The rest quit. - Compensation: Below even what the lowest average is for most agencies. Btw this is not a startup, it’s a small agency. - Culture: “Make our clients money.”...

    Advice to Management

Stay away from management. And start the whole business over from scratch. Re-evaluate what it means to be a leader and maybe consider stepping down.

I worked at Geek Powered Studios full-time

    Pros

A lot of talented people were recruited onto the team over the years. With varying experience, there were tons of great ideas that were grown from such a diverse team. The people doing the work really carry the company's weight on their shoulders.

    Cons

There's a lot to say but at the risk of having my review taken down because I shared something too direct (Having worked there for a good while, I'm familiar with how they operate), I'll just state the top 6 facts pertaining to my experience and let you readers infer from there: 1) Management doesn't know how to manage or lead. As I mentioned in the Pro's there WERE a lot of talented people working at the company....

    Advice to Management

Reorganize, reassess. Things are not going well, you need to acknowledge that and change. You're essentially at square one again with very little progress made in the 5-6 years the company's been in business. You should be getting more involved with the people on the ground level, getting their ideas on how to fix things. But be genuine because having fake concern or pretending to listen will only widen the gap between...

I worked at Geek Powered Studios full-time

    Pros

Not a single thing even worth mentioning.

    Cons

I left this place months ago to greener pastures, yet feel compelled to write this review because the mistreatment and harassment just continues to occur. There's nothing to be said that already hasn't been said in the previous reviews - the "Dumpster Fire" review is brutally honest and true on every account. It's so toxic that you will begin to question your own value as a human being, and hit brinks of insanity. It's...

I worked at Geek Powered Studios full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people working at this company are honestly incredible. They are smart, driven, hilarious, incredibly hard working, and will have your back no matter what. The only silver lining from my time working at Geek Powered Studios is the friends I was able to leave the company with. Important note: the people I am referring to do NOT include anyone in management at this company. As amazing as the people who do the actual...

    Cons

Where do I even start? This company is by far the worst place I have ever worked. While it seemed pretty amazing the first month on the job, the cracks quickly began to show and the entire thing unraveled at a rapid pace. Apparently, this is a cycle for this company – they hire amazing, talented people, impose ridiculous working conditions on them and screw them over at every chance they get, and then the majority of...

    Advice to Management

Learn what it means to be a leader, listen to the feedback that your employees give you, and get yourselves some empathy. The way you treat people is unacceptable.

I worked at Geek Powered Studios full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

When I first got hired, everyone was so nice and a big proponent of "culture" and "work life balance". I felt like part of a family

    Cons

Management will blame you personally for not meeting unattainable expectations. The "culture" at Geek Powered Studios is advertised as laid-back, fun and competitive but in fact, it is a culture of abusive bros that like to stab you in the back when you aren't around.

    Advice to Management

Take a leadership course and learn to be empathetic people

I have been working at Geek Powered Studios full-time

    Pros

I have absolutely lucked out with getting to work at Geek Powered. The team is smart, funny, kind and overall fantastic to work with! My ideas are listened to and the team is very collaborative and solution oriented. Leadership works hard to mentor and coach their team and has high standards to create top notch work for our clients. Hands down the culture is my favorite part, this is the first time in my career that...

Some of the processes are still being formed or are in the process of being updated due to growth and change within the industry. Having worked at other agencies, constant change comes with the territory, because the industry is constantly changing, so must we.

    Advice to Management

I feel like Geek Powered is on the cusp of something great! We have so many exciting things to look forward to over the next year. Best piece of advice is to prioritize items that need to be implemented and not push them to the back burner, I know especially being in leadership things can get busy. I definitely feel that the company is headed in the right direction and am excited about all of the positive changes that...

I worked at Geek Powered Studios for more than 2 years

    Pros

I absolutely loved my time working with Geek Powered and would have stayed long term had another "dream" opportunity not presented itself. When I left the company I wasn't looking to leave. 1.Geek Powered Studios has "culture" down. Co-workers quickly begin to feel more like friends or family. Video games, quarterly company gatherings, and regular events outside of work are the norm around Geek Powered. Prior to...

    Cons

    1. This is a newer, growing company--so there are some kinks that still need to be worked out with regard to organizational structure, feedback loops, and lines of communication. 2. There is little formal training in place for new employees. 3. Pay is a little bit lower than a larger company, but I think the other benefits and the ability to potentially grow with the company outweigh this negative.

    Advice to Management

Keep on your current path--things are starting to run more and more smoothly. Work on clearly communicating goals and new policies to the entire team. Continue to grow as you get feedback from the team. I think that leadership training would be really great for the management team--not because they aren't already leaders, but because leaders should constantly be challenging themselves to understand different learning...
