I have been working at Geek Squad full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible with college schedules. Decent employee discount and perks. Bonus structure isn't bad compared to other retailers. Paid better than most retailers.

    Cons

    Constant micromanagement
Fake culture full of buzzwords and synergy
Underqualified technicians who follow a strict workflow-no actual repairs are done. Incompetent co-workers who don't know enough about computer repair to actually diagnose a computer properly.

    Advice to Management

Actually implement the change that is constantly alluded to in the company media but is never implemented.

I worked at Geek Squad full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Teamwork, tons of back-end support, discounts and benefits packages are good. The fact you're working for a large company is nice, and there is a whole team working on the back end to make sure things work well. It's possible to move up and get promoted.

    Cons

The company simply is not what it once was- it's obvious that cost-cutting and over-compression have been the norm for many, many years. The company's culture, though once rich and quite fun, is now all but gone. The "fun" factor is dead, and the esprit-de-corps within the ranks is gone as well. It's about getting work done, going home, keeping your head down, and being dreadful of March every year (when the company is most likely to get reorganized and layoffs happen). There was once a mass layoff of field employees the *day before* Independence Day a few years ago. Imagine being told to wait by a phone for a phone call, and that call would be someone telling you (reading from a script) that they're sorry, but your position has been cut due to headcount reductions. Benefits have gotten worse, sadly, and the overall mood in the company has been lax at best.

    Advice to Management

Be transparent with your team, do not white-wash things insofar as that "everything is great" even though the teams are running thin and hours are getting lower. Please fix the hiring/separation policies. Stop making massive efforts to bust unions from forming. Allow employees to have a commission based on certain factors. Pay for certifications for the technicians like it once was, years ago. Revive the culture organically, not through a forced method to try to motivate the staff- it feels artificial.

I have been working at Geek Squad full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Work from home
    Best Buy employee discount

    Cons

    Scheduling is like the lottery
    Very cut throat
    Systems in place very confusing
    Poor guidelines
Quality of training depends on which manager you are under.

    Advice to Management

I have never worked for a company that had this bad of systems in place, everything is scattered around, literally 0 room to grow. Poor training. I advise you use a system structure compared to most other big companies.

I worked at Geek Squad full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A very fast paced environment, with a lot of learning potential. Geek Squad is a great place to start a career in IT so long as you don't plan to stay with the company.

    Cons

Very little room for advancement. Little to no formal training. Inconsistent company priorities and expectations. The company will provide education assistance but will not pay for technical certifications (at least at the time of writing this review 7-2016).

    Advice to Management

If you want to keep good repair techs, increase wages, provide incentives to expanding their technical knowledge, and hire competent department managers.

I worked at Geek Squad full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You are your own supervisor in essence as all calls are at remote locations (not in store), early shifts means you get out sooner, and I suppose the employee discount is decent.

    Cons

Management is terrible, they are all employees who benefit from relationships with employees in higher positions. No equal hiring process and a candidate is already chosen before the interview process begins.

    Advice to Management

BE AWARE OF LEADERSHIP. They are incompetent, disrespectful, and only looking after their best interests.

I have been working at Geek Squad part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Coworkers are the best aspect of the job
-Very flexible with work hours and time off requests
-Higher pay than the rest of the store

    Cons

-Awful management from the top down to the supervisor, management could care less about geek squad until they have to because they are getting yelled at by district.
-The wage ($11) does not remotely equal the amount of work and effort you put in
-Expected to perform 4 completely separate jobs (open box, client computers, client service, sales)all at the same time and have it all done by the end of the night for ($11/hr)
-If you are an excellent worker but lack on sales because you work odd (mostly) closing shifts and are meeting the goal you get hounded everyday and denied job opportunities for advancement even if you are qualified.
-no sense of appreciation from any level of management whether its the supervisor or the GM of the store, they care more about the sales floor than geek squad.

    Advice to Management

Clean up the toxic work environment which starts at management level, raise the wage for starting CA's to atleast $13 an hour OR remove some of the work load such as open box items so we can focus on the client and their computers. This job is NOT work $11 an hour for the amount of stress and work that we put in each day AND are also expected to still sell $30 an hour in sales, perform a FLOOD of open box items, handle clients (which is out meat and potatoes), AND perform work on side bench and back counter client computers. I'm leaving the company because there is no sense of appreciation, the management could care less about geek squad employees, the pay does NOT equal the amount of SWEAT and stress that is put in every single day by hard working guys and gals. Far too much is expected for far too little compensation not to mention a lack of positive attention from management.

    Pros

Work.outdoors , wear shorts and hats, solitude for the most part

    Cons

Most managers have power trip problems. Just over all bad leadership, no provided training to advance your skills lol. No role support

    Advice to Management

Work with your bay not against it, understand things will get broken and things will go wrong for new in roll people. Don't pick a fight 4 times on the same subject. Try to get some training for yourself and for your installers

I worked at Geek Squad full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I enjoyed the independence this job afforded, driving to client locations and meeting new people everyday.

    Cons

My bosses were only ever concerned with up-selling. Customer satisfaction? Nah. Quality work performed? Nah. Sell, sell, sell. So, if you want be a non-commissioned salesman, this is for you. The job is to get on site with a customer and sell them more than they originally planned.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees as talented technology support professionals and your clients as people with whom a long term, positive relationship is worth building.

    Constantly treated poorly by clients

    Advice to Management

Management should learn to keep promises and be more willing to help
