I have been working at Geek Squad full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

    - Benefits (Employee Discount, Medical, Vision, 401K, etc.) - Culture was positive

    Cons

    - Working on major Holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Years, etc.) - Best Buy ultimately decides everything for Geek Squad - Geek Squad saved Best Buy, but it feels like our culture is being dissolved.

    Advice to Management

Geek Squad itself it is fine. I believe Best Buy management needs better training and understanding on the standards that Geek Squad obtains, and wants to keep. Many times while working there I would have the Assistant or General Manager walk back there and act like he knew what needs to be done and cause a chaotic mess to occur, stressing everyone out. Educate yourself before acting on it, with limit knowledge. Thanks!

I have been working at Geek Squad part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - My precinct has great management, always looking out for us, always ready to answer questions. - Employee discount - The people around you, for the most part, all have the same goals of pursuing a career somewhere in IT.

    Cons

    - Client-driven - which isn't always a bad thing but when you get upset customers, it can be hard to shake it off some days.

    Advice to Management

Make sure you look out for your people, don't let client always gets what they want just because you want them to stop yelling.

I worked at Geek Squad full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

The field PC agent and HT agent have a lot of pluses, especially in terms of being able to work without constant supervision, company provided vehicles, etc. Work life balance was for the most part good. Do your route/scheduled jobs and go home. The employee discount while not as good as in prior years, is still good depending on what you use it on. Its a good job to use as a stepping stone or to learn marketable skills,...

    Cons

The pay scale is based on metrics most of the time beyond the control of the field agent. Yearly reviews even when above average, result in insultingly small increases in pay. There are no yearly cost of living increases, so raises are based entirely on sometimes ridiculously high performance metrics and yearly merit reviews can be biased based on the personal like or dislike of who is being reviewed by the individual...

    Advice to Management

Understand that while performance and great client service in the field is a given in terms of weighing compensation and performance, hard work to achieve these metrics should be rewarded with an equally fair wage increase. Instead of "towing the company line" when metrics are known to be unfair or insanely difficult to achieve for bonuses or merit increases, stand up for the employees who are out in the field doing...

I have been working at Geek Squad part-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

Worked for 5+ years as a Consultation and Advanced Repair. Employee discount, friendly peers, benefits, learn people skills, get to work with lots of interesting electronics.

    Cons

To heavily focused on making hourly target than helping current clients. Lottery type of sales as you can be helping somebody with a membership already. While the next associate will get the sale. This will cause management to punish you for helping current clients over new ones. Would rather sell to new clients than support existing ones. Last department on upper management's mind. Lots of work politics. Won't listen...

    Advice to Management

Don't focus too heavily on the sales of an individual, but rather as a team. I know it's a business, but your punishing good talent for doing their job. Also be more open to students. If you get somebody to take over your shift. Even if it is the day of it shouldn't put a mark on your record. As many college students and I, there are days that we need to be covered for exams and projects. If I get somebody to cover it...

I have been working at Geek Squad

    Pros

Good employee discount , good learning grounds

    Cons

pushed to much to sale , pay is basically minimum wage

    Advice to Management

start geek squad associates at least a dollar above the minimum wage because we are the "elites" of the store we should at least get a dollar above what the blue shirts are getting

I worked at Geek Squad full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Pay and company benefits such as Employee discount, College tuition reimbursement and employee stock purchase plans. 401K match. Paid holidays and vacation and sick time

    Cons

Sometimes there are limited chances for advancement unless you are looking to move up into leadership positions which includes supervisors and or management.

    Advice to Management

Watch your HR department and members who deal with employee issues. Ensure things are being dealt with fairly.
