I have been working at Geek Squad full-time

    Pros

    - You'll get a lot of hands on experience - Forced to keep up with the latest technology - Discount can be great - It is what you make of it, put in good work, and you'll learn a lot

    Cons

    - Requires incredible amounts of patience - If management goes against your word and breaks policy, client interactions will get sour - Requires too much schedue flexibility for the skillsets asked for - Pay is far too low compared to jobs with significantly fewer stressors

    Advice to Management

Pick your battles wisely - don't break policy too often to satisfy a customer. Creating a culture of entitlement may save a sale, but it may sour your employee's attitudes in the future if they feel that policy doesn't matter. Nothing infuriates an agent more than being contradicted in front of a problem customer for properly following company policy. I'd also recommend not using your agents as sales floor associates...

I have been working at Geek Squad part-time for more than 4 years

      Pros

+ Get to boss around the sales associate (train them, coach them) + Hands on Experience + Watching people walk out the door happy + Get to establish contacts with people in other companies such as (Webroot, Kaspersky & etc).

      Cons

Clients continuously abuse Tech Support's terms and condition it states clearly that only 3 computers can be serviced by Geek Squad continuous abuse of this policy led Geek Squad to change the policy to just 1 computer instead of 3 computer which basically makes it a little bit harder for us to sell 24/7 plans.

I worked at Geek Squad for more than 4 years

      Pros

There's a lot of good to be gained from working in Geek Squad. You get a lot of hands-on experience, which will get you to your next job. If you think of it as a short-term building block to your success and not as a JOB job (don't buy into that crap), you'll be fine. Just add it to your resume, go to school while doing it, and you'll be in good shape. Also if your Precinct happens to be like mine was, you'll get some...

      Cons

They don't care if you're building your future. If you happen to be in school, you'll be considered second for the new full-time spot that just opened up. The metrics are garbage and were certainly made by people hired directly into Corporate out of college and have never had a retail job. Your bonus solely relies on the impossible mitigation of how many horrible people you happen to meet that month, and your pay is only...

      Advice to Management

Although treated as such, Geek Squad is not the unwanted tumor on Best Buy's foot. The blue side of the company matters just as much as the white side, and the thing that peeved me the most in my years there was the huge disconnect with Leadership, especially when it came to critical issues. It was a hilarious joke most of the time.
