I have been working at Geek Squad part-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Let me start off by saying that I think the culture behind Geek Squad is awesome. If you love to work on computers, and are looking for real world experience this is a great job. I have learned a vast wealth of knowledge that I know I can use in the future. I have met a lot of great people within the company too that are like minded. Its great being able to bounce ideas off one another, agents make this company shine.

    Cons

Growth. You will slowly realize you have no future with this company unless you are interested in becoming a manager which does very little with Geek Squad and more of a sales floor manager at Best Buy. Pay is also not competitive for the work that is asked of us. You want us to complete complex repairs, with very little resources and training available. Work life balance can...

    Advice to Management

Talk to your Agents, learn more about how this brand functions. Managers are often only concerned with the sales floor and it really leaves us in the dark. Your employees are what makes Geek Squad great, appreciate them and pay them more competitively. You can literally work at Apple and be a tech and get paid more for the same or less amount of work.

I have been working at Geek Squad full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Get to work with technology, health insurance, discount

    Cons

Pretty low pay for an advanced repair agent in some stores based on location. No help, lots of work and can make the same as those with lesser job responsibilities . Denied vacation due to being under staffed and expected to carry the entire back precinct. Not much growth after a full time ARA inside a store. Any growth will have to transfer outside of store due to work politics usually. If you're the only ARA work...

    Advice to Management

skilled full time repair agents, that have been with the store for years should get a living wage over 12.25hr. It's fine for entry level, but should be reevaluated based on consistency, performance, years and workload per store. If you hit your goals for 4 years and are the only full timer you should at least make 15-18 hourly or offered during yearly reviews. Passing up raises, based on other team members performance...

I have been working at Geek Squad full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Decent pay if you come in externally.

    Cons

Pay is horrible if you've been with the company for a long time. Constant layoffs, favoritism, "good-old-boy" mentality with promotions, no work/life balance, benefits were expensive for what you got, 401k/stocks/benefits slashed year after year.

    Advice to Management

Quit outsourcing jobs overseas to save a few dollars

Geek squad has so much potential for training and educating those getting started in the help desk, IT support, or even appliance repair etc...They have divisions with excellent training for: Computer Repair, Remote (work from home) IT support, Appliance Repair, Home Theater, Car Audio, leadership, and others. Advice to Management

Please retain your talent. One has to wonder when so many tenured agents are leaving the company. Rethink what compensation should be if you want to keep your brightest and most talented. It seems to me that over the years benefits have slowly became more expensive, slowly taken away bit by bit. While I know the benefits are a negotiated package between Best Buy and the insurance company, there are other retailers...

    Pros

The co workers are the best! Positive work environment

    Cons

Hectic work/life balance makes it difficult, but they have made changes to try to account for that.

    Advice to Management

there is a reason people enjoy our services. Outsourcing lowers the quality of the great services we provide.

I worked at Geek Squad part-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

The Geek Squad has a fun culture. I remember enjoying my work, laughing with my coworkers and in general having a pretty good time at work. The training isn't bad and working for them gets you onto a good start in the IT field. Working for the Geek Squad, you will learn superior client management and customer service skills. You are specifically taught how to notice a problem with a computer, then translate that into...

    Cons

Odd hours. I was part-time, which meant I worked until 9-10p every night. This had a pretty negative affect on my work/life balance. Retail environment is ridiculously cutthroat, to the point of being tiring. I truly wish that Geek Squad were separate from Best Buy, only so the high-pressure sales crap wouldn't be so prevalent, nothing against BB as a company. Your will...

    Advice to Management

This varies a lot by store. My direct supervisor (at the time, Geek Squad Lead, now defunct) as well as direct manager and store assist/GM were all good people and led with solid integrity. But, thats just my store. I've heard plenty of horror stories, and this is all going to depend on which store you are at.

    Cons

Work/Life Balance Pay - Starts out horrible, and after A LOT of work and promotions, eventually becomes level with entry level positions everywhere else. Training

    Advice to Management

I understand that hiring cheap means you can hire someone with little to no experience, but when experience, and training are then acquired afterwards, or they have had time to prove skill and value, adjusting wage should be put in place. And promote a work life balance.
