I have been working at Gehry Partners, LLP full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They had excellent compensation and benefits. They fostered an environment of growth and learning. Casual, comfortable dress and free food and drinks, etc.

    Cons

No work life balance. Working crazy hours, weekends, etc.

    Advice to Management

Make your employees aware of the work/life balance prior to hiring.

    Pros

Famous Starchitect... Exceptional resume booster... Chance to work at the pinnacle o design with one of the most respected firms out there. All the projects in the office are very meaningful and very interesting. If you are a student in school or just finished, this is the place to be. It is highly competitive to get in, but the office is kind and feels much like a large studio.

    Cons

You will most likely be a cog in the machine... high turnover in lowly employees because a lateral move elsewhere may be the best way to be "promoted". You will not be recognized for the work you do on projects. There are few "real world" parameters on designers... no budgets... no engineering constraints... consultants and higher-ups will figure out those things.

    Advice to Management

One of the better Starchitect firms around... The pay is very fair and the experience is definitely meaningful

    Pros

world class architecture; world class oversight; innovative products, materials and systems. a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity

    Cons

can be very intense and driven environment. the perks are good -- meals when you work late, world class health plan; free parking; but the workload is gigantic

    Advice to Management

be more visible; management travels a lot and much is done via email and telephone
