I worked at Geisinger Health Plan full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Due to having a toddler in daycare, lets face it, they end up sick.. A Lot! GHP was understandable, they gave a great work life balance and allowed me to make up time without question without using PTO. They recognized you for your accomplishments and always made you feel apart of the team without excluding you, that's very hard to come by. GHP, also held celebrations to break away from work such as a Snow Crawl, Tailgate, Potlucks, Icecream socials with also need to use PTO to attend. Overtime was always allowed. Management allowed you to do your job without hovering over you.

    Cons

Low pay, couldn't find room to grow.

I have been working at Geisinger Health Plan full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Nice benefits, great paid time off. Ability to work remotely. OT available sometimes. Good training program. New CEO with vision.

    Cons

I have never worked for a company where management is so horrible. My department deals with a bully on a daily basis. Manager is afraid to make consequences to the defiant workers. It is totally unbelievable. One employee is late everyday and takes long breaks and nothing is ever said only excuses. Maybe we all should work that way since it is allowed.

    Advice to Management

Demote managers and supervisors who can't manage and supervise.

I worked at Geisinger Health Plan full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

At this point in time, I really can't say there are any. You'd be better off working for Highmark Blue Cross.

    Cons

No career opportunities, the company is going down hill quick. They recently laid off a bunch of good people and now lots of people are resigning. That means more work for the ones that are left.

    Advice to Management

Your employees are more than just a number, without them the Health plan wouldn't exist. Start treating them right.

    Pros

Plenty of OT available, pay wasn't bad, work space was roomy enough to not feel squished even in cubicle land. There was always work to do.

    Cons

The people in the Adjustment and Claims departments were atrocious. They made it a hostile environment while the manager allowed it.

Coworkers were extremely loud and disruptive and made fun of disabled patients who were going to dialysis appointments across the street. There were also lots of racist remarks. They constantly and loudly talked trash on everyone else. It was very distracting.

The one coworker was so hostile acting everyone was afraid to do anything about it. The manager condoned their behavior and even joined in.

That group was allowed to be on their phones all day but anyone else got in trouble for it. It was double standards and cattiness all around. It made the job unbearable.

The manager for that area was immature and clearly not qualified enough to hold that position. Adults were acting like teenagers. That kind of behavior is unacceptable to the work place and is an embarrassment to all of Geisinger.

    Advice to Management

Leadership needs a reboot. The manager I mentioned needs to be fired for letting their employees act out and for their immature behavior and inexperience. GHP needs to get their employees in check. No one wants a hostile work environment. Learn from the other departments that show teamwork.
