I worked at Geisinger Health System full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The healthcare industry is evolving and they do the best to stay current. Constantly hiring. Tuition assistance programs available. Transferrability to other departments. Promotion opportunity available.

    Cons

It is very much a "who you know" network. Nurses are worked relentlessly. Government politics are openly discussed. Pay is often less than the industry average.

I have been working at Geisinger Health System full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fast paced environment. You are dealing with an environment that is many times behind from a technology aspect due to vendors but they expect the experience to be highly advanced

    Cons

Not valued. The business units do not understand the cost of running IT, they see it as a hindrance to doing business. They try to avoid IT process instead of partnering with us.

    Advice to Management

Understand the true value of IT

I have been working at Geisinger Health System full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Decent benefits
Pay is "ok" for the rural area it's in.

    Cons

Toxic culture. Self centered and untrustful management. Political environment that changes based on management opinion. A lot of change for the sake of change.

    Advice to Management

Get over yourselves. Make decisions based on facts not speculation. Value ALL employees. Just because you might be new, doesn't mean everything else should be. It was working well before your promotion or hiring.

    Pros

    Decent benefit package
    Decent work life balance

    Cons

very low pay with high level of responsibility and little oversight
    Top heavy with managerial positions
Does not concentrate on competitive wages for actual caregivers. Management positions, IT and ancillary positions are better pay and less stress. Needs to care for the actual caregivers. its a Hospital! If we are not here there is no hospital

    Advice to Management

This healthcare system would not function without Nurse Practioners and Physician Assistants. Some of us have been providing care for patients for years. We are these patients "doctors" We need to be treated with greater respect. Our pay wages are not up to par with national average. We are treated as replaceable so we will continue to leave creating a void and no continuity in care. Welcome to healthcare in 2017.

    Pros

Managers are approachable and friendly and make you feel welcome and able to bounce ideas off of and share information.

    Cons

This is a rural health system, so anyone not familiar with rural life would be in for a shock when applying and/or accepting a job.
