I have been working at Geisinger

    Pros

The worlds finest minds in the world of medicine and research in a not-for-profit organization.

    Cons

Sometimes rapid changes happen to retard personal growth in leadership.

    Advice to Management

Remember the little people who contribute and not so much the administrative.

    I worked at Geisinger part-time

    Pros

Geisinger has great benefits for their employees to take advantage of.

    Cons

Management is unorganized, communication is horrific across the board. Pts. are treated like numbers not individual human beings with individual needs!

    Advice to Management

Better communication and more emphasis on "quality pt care", proper staffing so pts are treated like cattle but individuals.

I have been working at Geisinger part-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

Wonderful co-workers, teaching hospital with many wonderful clinicians, beautiful and safe rural community with people from all over the world drawn by the hospital, great team work. On my unit, schedulers try very hard to accommodate individual scheduling preferences and requests.

    Cons

Individuals feel expendable but management is slow to approve and hire replacements, which means either short-staffed shifts or lots of "voluntary" overtime. Sometimes an extra monetary incentive is in place to compensate nurses for staying an extra 4 or 8 hours, taking extra shifts, or coming in 4 hours early, but this incentive is not always available on all units--it comes and goes on mine.

    Advice to Management

Make the monetary incentive a constant on all units for nurses giving up free time to come in early, stay late, or come in extra shifts to keep a safe, reasonable level of staffing and reduce staff burnout.

I have been working at Geisinger part-time

    Pros

Geisinger Careworks after-hours clinic offers flexible hours, great benefits and the management is helpful and involved in the care of patients, and someone is on call 24/7.

    Cons

Sometimes, it is necessary for management to be on site for certain situations. The administrative office is located in Danville, and there at many clinics throughout the eastern region of pa.
