  1. "Great place to work"

    5.0
Former Employee - Trader in Boston, MA

I worked at Gelber Group full-time

    Pros

Unlimited earning potential and a lifestyle that is not like a real job. You have to work hard but at the end of the day, your success or failure will be due to the decisions you make.

    Cons

It is all on you, which is good or bad depending on who you are.

  2. "Solid place for someone with experience looking to leverage a working/winning strategy"

I worked at Gelber Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pretty short leash when you are new or in the red, but once you earn trust by proving yourself, and are in the green, they will encourage you to press hard with that house money. Fair, straightfordward, transparent, trading deal

    Cons

This may have changed, but not a lot of guidance on mining new territories. There was some cross collaboration between groups, but there was a very siloed vibe even after the move to the new open floor plan office.

I worked at Gelber Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There is plenty of autonomy to go around. Great culture. The firm is very flat as well - if you want to talk to the best traders or Brian Gelber himself, you can, just be respectful and earnest. Hard work and passion are recognized, but understand that this does not always yield results.

    Cons

Sometimes the autonomy and lack of structure resulted in not knowing where you stood. I consider myself to be a very forthright and communicative person and I still had multiple moments where I was unsure of what was expected of me even after attempting to clarify. Also you have to understand that this is the trading business - things change quickly and if the firm decides to make a systemic change as they did halfway through my development track, it may be time for you to leave. However, they were gracious with my exit. Also it must be understood that hard work does not equate to success in the trading business - Brian was great at expressing this to me until I was ready to hear it.

I worked at Gelber Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Nice office. People were fun to be around.

    Cons

I was given the opportunity to build out a equity arb desk, but not given the tech support and Gelber pulled the plug after a down month. Was not even paid out as I was still overall up money
